    Hello
Im Jim, and I have been living here in the PI sinse Nov 2002. I have loved every minute of it. But like Ron I have been frustrated many many times also.. but many things have changed sinse I first came here to live. Now many of the things I could not buy before I can buy now.. not all the time but sometimes they are available. But on the most part I have learned to live without them. My life style is simple so I dont require a high end maintenance to keep me happy... as long as I have my internet, cable tv, aircon, and first and formost my beautiful wife Im very happy
I first came here to the Philippines on June 3, 1969, for a short 7 day R&R from VietNam. But I always told myself I was going to come back and live here. It just took me 33 years of detours to do it lol. I came back here June 3, 2002 to meet my wife in person after almost 2 years of writing letters back and forth and talking on the phone or internet. At that time we decided she would come to the US and we would get married there... but things change.. on sept of 2002 I had a heart attack and ended up in the hospital with a stent so after I recovered enough I decided it was time I left and started to enjoy life.. so I left my house behind (I put it up for sale) put my things in storage.. (my kids there have it all now) and to the PI I went getting here in Nov 2002 was married Dec 9, 2002 and I have been enjoying this way of life ever sinse........ and their are NO REGRETS ... but I would like to see more NFL football televised lol
Ok had my two cents worth.... Im done
    Jim

If you veto negative comments, you will not get negative comments, but do you get the whole picture?
Or is this the pink sunglass part between gloom and doom?

Firefly, you get the "whole picture" from me. As I said, this is not for everybody, and those that don't like it here, should leave and go elsewhere to find their brand of happiness.
Sure, I would like to have more NFL, and NASCAR also. And I envy those of us here that DO have reasonably fast Internet (because I don't). But I am adjusting to reading the sports after-the-fact on Yahoo.
To all of us that love it here, enjoy. To all those that don't, please have a safe trip to your next destination.

The time that i'm on this forum and before on another (Dutch) forum, i've seen a lot of "by-passers", they come and go.
Many of them very positive and than disappear.
You only can guess the reason why.
But as we say"Exceptions confirm the rule"
After many years (6 months a year) in the Philippines i'm still here.
And i'm always happy to come but i'm also happy to spend some months in Belgium.
And i'l keep it that way.

Welcome Lonedove, nice story, thanks for sharing. There are many members with similar backgrounds as yours on the DI. Just curious why you are just joining now and what tweaked your interest.

well I was trying to find info at Filproducts on scheduals for super bowel but found nothing there.. then seen this Dumaguete Info.. so browsed around a bit and decided to put in my two cents worth lol... I actually have my house in Manjuyod about 57 k north of Dumaguete but also have apartment here where I spend the week while my son is in school... but when I checked out this site I liked what I saw and thought it was better then a few others and that this one was closer to home.... oh I did find a direct stream for the super bowel so was able to watch the whole game

    Ah, bliss!

:wink:Of course firefly, exceptions will always be there, to me, you have the perfect solution to the situation, negative comments are sauce for the goose but it is not so much the comments that I did not understand, it was negative living that prompted me posting the thread. I still travel a fair bit so I do get to have a Pressure release as you do. Thank You for the imput, as usual, it puts a slightly different slant on things.

In Belgium we have a saying “Love makes blind”
This certainly is the case for many foreigners coming to the Philippines.
For me, the older I become and the more my eyes are deteriorating, the better I see the negative aspects of living in the Philippines.
In the West many people enjoy taking vacation on a camping, living in a tent with basic food and basic facility’s. But none of them would like to spend their whole life this way.
When someone comes to the Philippines for a few weeks vacation, he sees mostly the bright side of life, palm trees, exotic nippa huts, sand - sea and ….Yes.
When you stay longer, you get always more frustrated.
Brownouts, no water, Sorry no stock sir, just name it.
Frustration growing, and when you need permanent medical help, decision is easily made
You just have to be completely blind to ignore the facts.
