Lonedove, this may not work for you but I will share it fyi. I know an American living in Angeles, in his early 70's, that had a very successful hip surgery performed at St. Lukes Hospital Quezon City. St. Lukes has also opened a new state-of-the-art hospital in Global City Taguig. Good luck on getting fixed up and with a tough recovery.

yes i can get it done at St. Lukes... but the cost to me is around 12-14000 us dollar plus meds which could run as high as a additional 6000 us dollar.. the reason for the high cost meds is because this is the second time to have this hip done.. so infection could set in. But if I go to the USA the cost to me is only my fair to and from for my wife and I... as I am a 100% disabled veteran I can get it done at any of the VA medical centers there. Where as here because it is not a service connected disablity I would have to pay for it..

Jack, thanks for starting this thread. Like a lot of good threads, some of the posts are provocative and generate positive and negative energy.
I just want RonV to know that most of us have his back and for him to please keep sharing his positive life stories with us.

    Thank You!

 Thank's Pat, it is good to know that in the main, most of are happy, negative posts are always needed, as long as they are not, as we have seen sometimes, Rude, abusive and sometimes downright intimidating. We can't live without some negative energy as you quite rightly put it, what would we have if the world was perfect. Anarchy I think, nothing to fight for, no comparisons. When I sat and thought about starting this, I think I was under the impression that I might get some real Stick BUT I am so pleased that it has shown, me at least, that those who made a decision to move and live here, know or knew it would be tough, We will continue to be happy and stay. I am not sure the three Questions I asked, will ever be answered in full but at least we all got a good view of how most of us feel.

Welcome Leonard. I enjoyed our comment, "trying to live here like you did in the US". It is probably impossible to do that but more what people miss about their home country, if they dwell on it for whatever reason. I have to admit, it took me 6-8 months to adjust to the driving and a little longer to living here. Now, I enjoy it.
Good luck on your house, mine was just finished at the end of last year, lot of lessons learned. Hopefully, your house is located where there is a Noreco primary power line and internet and cable tv access, mine isn't. Let me and others know if you have questions.

PatO. before buying the lot i checked water, power, cable availability. It is all there. The plumbing for CR'S goes into septic tank, while gray water is routed to city drain.Throughout construction i have supervised and inspected all phases of construction, right down to pressurizing water system before pouring flatwork. There is adequate city water pressure, so no pressure tank is needed.Tomorrow i will meet builder and go over electric. Roof material should also be on site and i will measure for correct thickness. What problems did you run into?

Leonard, I was not as wise as you in selecting a lot location. Although the builder did a great job with the house construction, the following were surprises to me:
    1. The house turned out to be only 60% of the overall cost (backfill, concrete driveway, wall, fence & gate, landscaping).
    2. The lot was 250 meters away from the last Noreco pole and transformer, even though I am about 1/2k from the south hiway. I am on a builders temp line and only get 160-190 volts.
    3. Skycable doesn't service my area, Filproducts piggybacks off the Noreco lines so had to go satellite tv.
    4. Globe internet doesn't come out this far so have to use SmartBro dial up speed modem.
    5. I didn't give putting in a well priority, 2 weeks ago there was a problem and I went 5 days with no water.
    6. My landscaper, when laying the bermuda, left wide gaps between the sheets so matting is taking a long time.
    7. The mayor and others used the vacant lot next to me to squatter cows and coats, bad smell, had to buy my way out of that one.
The good news is Noreco has said they will istall poles and extend the primary line up to my house, I will still need to buy a transformer for my load. Once the Noreco problem is solved, and assuming the cows don't return, I will be satisfied.
