Hi guys. I´ll travel around Philippines for 40 days. Don´t have a lot of money and I don´t like staying in the big cities more than a couple of days so I have decided explore a bit the province, I have been researching on internet and I guess that Dumaguete will be my kind of city, small young and lively.

Is Dumaguete a nice place to be based for a while exploring around, Valencia, Sqijor, Bais and even go for a few days to Cebu and Bohol and come back???
    What do you think??

Also what do you think about Simillian´s founder day (week)??

I´m excited to go there but I don´t know how much time I should be around.

    Thanks for your help.

    Jaime

    Welcome Jaime

Dumaguete is a great base. Airport to Manila, 2-3 times a day, ferries to Cagayan De Oro, Manila, Bohol, Cebu and Siquihor, Ceres Bus to Cebu and pretty much anywhere on Negros.

Lots of information on this forum on all that, including places to stay and things to see and do, bike rental, places to eat, etc. Just use the "search" function

    Cheers

    Welcome Project,

Newcomers to the Philippines that find Dumaguete right off the bat are very lucky.

I know people (including me) that spent years looking for just the right place to hang our hats, and, after much "trial and error" found Dumaguete to be just right.

To be honest it looks so perfect to me, small charming city well comunicated with lots of places to visit around nice beaches near by and probably cheaper then the big cities (cos I don´t have lots of money  ).

Will 4000P a day be enough?

    Thanks for your help.

If you don't have to pay for your room out of that then 4000 a day is acceptable.

Yes 4000 pesos is plenty, unless you want to dine in the higher priced restaurants !!.

well I don't think 4000 is plenty for a day, at least not if you look at the plans of the original post.

having a base here and traveling all the places will cost you money.

just for Dumaguete and some close-by sights and a few nights out 4k is fine, even you pay a cheap room from it. But 4k/day (including room) is pretty tight for a Bais dolphin trip or Apo trip if you are alone and cant share cost, not even talking about a few days Bohol if you wanna make more than sitting at the beach.

Sure, all is possible with public transfers etc. but than you spend half of your vacation in a bus/jeepney.

Well, I will need to cut a lot somehow, what I will try is to spend less than that some days so I can spend some more other days. I don´t need the best hotels or the best restaurants...I don´t know, I´m a bit surprise, Lets say I spend 1000P in the room, can I not live with 3000P??? just to eat and a couple of drinks, obiously if I go on a excursion probably not but if I just take it easy and stay enjoying the city?? I could save some that way so I could spend it on a excursion other day...maybe I´m wrong

When I was traveling in Thailand i was spending 100 USD a day and I was living ok and now with more or less the same money a day I´m starting to be concern ...well, I´m kind of use to not having much money

Thanks very much for your answers

I Know of one who lives on 2K a day including lodgings, Beer, Food and some travel and a fine life they have too. Each to their own happiness. Good luck with your vacation project. Take care all.
Some Barhoppers or grand spenders 10K a day is not enough. No offence intended to any such lucky persons.
