Sorry, that is no solution at all. Usually there are four or more of these guys hanging around, and it doesn't matter what you do, they just cannot keep their paws off. Often there are different ones hanging around when you return, who have moved it yet again.

We have found several "safe" places to park where usually it will get left alone. Also the guys behind Lee Plaza (not on the side street) are very "professional". I don't mind them at all, and usually will let them wash my bike whether it needs it or not.

A couple of peso here and there is just loose shrapnel to most expats. Pay or don't pay, individual choice. Simples.

Appy Ammer - love the handle. Do you, like me, have a connection to Upton Park and pints in the Anne Boleyn ??????????????

Broadside.... You guessed it , im west ham through and through. Also popped into the Boleyn a few times for a pint. Takes away a little bit of the pain of watching the hammers over the years lol...

Shadow....The smile and politness has always worked for me whoever is there and how many. You butter up one and he will have a word with the others. They know not to touch it, its not worth anything to them. I even manage to be on names terms after a few visits. You got the principal exactly right though. A small gesture like getting your bike washed or when you do need the bike looking after, why not chuck them a couple of extra peso. It all works its self out in the long run. Point is deal with it with respect and youll have no worries. Pay or dont pay just be polite and you can shop care free !

Let us know after a few years here how it works for you. Money is not the issue. I would gladly pay them P10 just to leave it the hell alone! But how many do you pay, 10, 20, all of them? It is seldom the same ones around after the bike has been sitting there for a few hours.

Instead, I park it usually where it is completely alone and nothing can park next to it. Even then, when I come back it has been knocked over into a concrete pillar, and stood back up so that I won't notice right away. This happened less than a month after I spent an entire week painting it. (New colour!) Funny, my spell check goes off when I spell color that way.

Nope, these guys are just a big pet peave for me, and one of my few real complaints about living here.

At Robinson's i always park at the sideparking near the exit with securityguard and i've never seen a parkingboy.
In the city around the park i pay 2 pesos and never had any problem or complaint

looking at your profile you are obviously a part time tourist in dumaguete
who probably doesnt even ride a bike

to the other guys who recommend smiling nicely etc,
sounds like the same advice you would give to someone getting mugged

Yes I am comming twice a year in Dumaguete for5 weeks, that is 10 weeks a year.
When I am in Dumaguete I RENT a moterbike by ting ting (well known on the forum) so if you can count 10 week2 a year I ride a moterbike in Dumaguete.
And I do that already for nine years.
Many many times at Robinssons (since almost one year)and many many times at Mart One (the other site of the street of Lee Plaza).

So dont tell me something about Dumaguete that I dont already know.

    Greetings J.Diver
P.s:Yes I have a profile but why dont you have one

Heh we are talking about 10 or 20 cents. Pay it if you want, don't if you don't want to. I have never seen them prevent a person from driving off because they didn't hand over a couple coins. I usually tip them but on several occasions didn't have any coins I just said "Sorry pal" and drove off. I never give anything to beggars but don't mind a few coins for the parking boys.

You RENT a motorbike for 10 weeks per year? Sounds like it would be cheaper to buy a new one every year. Sometimes tourists don't think so good.

Ive only been here nearly 5 years, but... if a trivial thing like parking a bike is getting to you maybe you've been here to long. Take a long trip back home and maybe you'll appreciate what is here. lol....
