Philippine water is not tested like it is in the U.S. Each well is tested in the city of Bacong by the city, and is described as "safe to drink" or "not safe to drink". The joke is that they do not tell you what they test for! They even joke that "safe to drink" is safe to drink for filipinos and not necessarily for foreigners! I checked how water is, and can be, tested in the U.S. by private labs. It is almost endless to what you can have it tested for! $1,000 for a private lab to do a VERY extensive test of water in the U.S. is not uncommon, and is suggested for a brand new well.

Siaton water, depending on the source, is less riskier to drink than a more heavily populated, and commercialized area like Dumaguete.

The locals are usually raised on the local water and have developed an immunity to most bacterias and who knows what is growing in the local water.

I, personally, will not drink ANY local water unless I know it has been heavily filtered. Even the spring water on our farm I have filtered and boiled before I will drink it. My next trip I'm bringing a microscope with me!

I've seen too many weird birth defects, skin rashes, and animals with tumors to think that the local water is 100% safe! It's not worth saving a few $'s a month in my opinion. I'll stick with bottled water.
