Well, this being the Philippines, one should not expect egg on their egg McMuffin! Seriously though, if you keep trying, I know of a Filipina who was granted a tourist visa after 7 attempts. She was a newscaster for ABS-CBN, married an American, and went to the US after finally obtaining a tourist visa. She has never been heard from since. Her husband divorced her for abandonment and now lives in Cebu. Larry Larry
What! YOU! eat at Mc D's, Pat come on, we know you better than That! :D BUT! Then as a Marine, It is all about survival, Glad you made it my Friend. Jack P.
Interesting thread.....Pat, I live in Perth, which is absolutely beautiful....but the Sydney waterfront has to be one of the prettiest spots on the planet. Been there a few times...and we went there on our honeymoon from Saudi. It's a hands-down unforgettable memory for anyone who sees it. We never will for surel. Here in Western Australia, we have some superb sights too - but many are hours, even days, of driving to get to. But once there you'll never forget them as well. I often run into visiting US sailors and Marines who are just awed by the splendor and friendliness of our state. I grew up in the US (and overseas postings - Japan etc.), my father was American military, and I did eight years in the Marine Corps myself. ) 03 till a Vietnam re-enlistment to the Airwing was offered (bloody good deal that gave me a great vocation that opened up some great jobs - THANK YOU USMC - best thing I ever did). My parents were always talking about moving to Oz...my mother was very keen of course...but it never happened. Once me and my wife did a couple trips - we realized that this was the place to raise a family. Now we've done that - one is a US Marine Corps officer, another is Medical Scientist here in Perth, and the third was a Mining Engineer, but is doing further studies to be a leading resource economist. We've got a nice block of land in a very nice Bacolod subdivision and I expect we'll eventually put up a small house there for spending a couple months a year. But honestly, it's pretty good down here, we're happy.... Hope you are successful in getting that visa....do insist on talking to an American if you have to! I wouldn't take any rubbish from the clerks. Anyway, you're obviously dinkum and if you do have to fall back on plan B - hope you pass thru Perth....send a PM if that happens...I'll teach you how to drink beer and show you the world's best kept secret. Western Australia.
shadow...come on down anytime! Check out Malaysian...I hear they are running special prices till mid-2011 to Oz...I personally don't have any problems with the US government. I think the last sixty years would have been a lot worse for the world without the leadership the United States has presented. Beats communism or Islam for sure. That said, do come down to Oz to really relax and enjoy yourself without the third world BS and security worries. It is great here, healthy, the skies are blue, very blue, the ocean is too.....non-polluted...lots to see and do....A great break away from the Philippines....
Garbonzo, impressive job raising the family and happy to hear you added one for the corps. I would love to visit Perth and the Margaret River wineries. Curious why you chose the Bacolad area over Dgte area? Semper fi
Actually...my wife chose Bacolod (she's a native) LOL...if it was JUST me - I think Dumaguete would have won...That said Bacolod has a lot going for it. Better infrastructure, services (if you can call them that), and certainly the shopping and availability of goods is miles ahead of Dumaguete when you need them. I'd be hard pressed to the think of anything in Cebu shops that you can't buy in Bacolod. And the airport is a treat. Negatives - totally crap beaches for 50k in either direction....traffic during rush hours.... We just got back from a 'retreat', a very relaxing short holiday in Denmark, on the West Australian south coast. My favourite place - on the planet....stayed here - and loved it... http://celestineretreat.com
Looks VERY nice! I was confused for a moment though - Denmark or Western Australia? Then I found out that Denmark is the name of the place in Western Australia! :D
Yes, beautiful place....we love it....spend a little time shopping around for a retirement lot. Prices were high - but not ridiculous....Can't think of a better place to really relax and enjoy life... A couple pics:
Complete with Roos. Wonderful home Garbonzo! Airdales always get to the good stuff first. Looks like Western Austrailia is certainly worth a vist. My wifes former neighbor is married to an Austrailian who lives in Sydney and she tells my wife that homes there are using some form of additional re-inforcement to protect them from neighborhood shootouts. But port Jackson may still be worth visiting.
If I ever one the Lottery, Austraila would be on the top of My list of places to move too. Just don't which side of the Island I'd live on....It all seems so nice and the People very Friendly. Of course I'd have to have a vacation house in the P.I though.....
