Are these western casinos in Duma, or are you talking about those in a different country?

The western casinos are in the western world !! i.e. London, Paris, Lisbon etc.

I don't actually know of any casinos in or around Dumaguete. The only casino I have been to in the Philippines was the Watefront on Mactan. Watched the roulette over 50 or so spins, and decided that it was probably rigged. Never sat down at the table.

there are many people on this forum who can help / advise you.....finding a place to stay is not difficult..... but finding a place to stay that YOU like might be a little difficult....

There is the cool fresh heights of Valencia.....to the light breeze of the beach areas like Dauin.... I would recommend not locking yourself in until you explored all options
You can find help here on the forum.....or come down and network the community.... there are several brokers with good reputations who can help..... my suggestion is you stay in Cebu while you come down to DC and explore your various options

Zamboanguita is a lovely community but it is a long way from Dumaguete.....Valencia has less of a mosquito problem....and is cooler.....Dauin is still a little distance from the mall and theater .....you also need to talk to locals about TV or phone or internet connection.... power and water problems..... do not rush..... talk to neighbors and other foreigners.... find the "home' you need....

Most of us will be very happy to help if we can

I am the world's worst poker player...my best move is to divide my money between the other players and save time .. but there are several games in town....
Which is best.....or even which is honest....I have no clue.....but there are a lot of card players here.... so a new fresh game would not be hard to find
without any research I know at least three different games....

Actually, the term 'casino" was a mistake on my part, a card house or what ever they call it would be much better than any casino anyway.
Besides, Rhoody told me the local govt. is dead set against any casino opening in Duma and I have no reason to doubt that is true.
Also, I have had nights where I wished I had divided my money between the players and saved my time, it happens sometimes.

    Back Streets!

Have a look in the Back Street Eateries, you will usualy find a card game going on. At your peril of course, as a foreigner, you are not supposed to win!

    I don't know.
We have just rented a 3bdr fresh renovated house for 6 000 pesos monthly but it was almost empty so we had to spend some money on the furniture and ref (about $500). I've searched around for 3-4 days and seen about 20-25 houses. I'm sure you will be able to find something below 15 000. I know one perfect place of my dreams for 16 000 fully furnitured with AC and a good private lot, completely expat style option. So if you are still looking, I could show you the place. Unfotunately it was too expensive for me and they didn't want to negotiate.

Do the locals actually play Hold 'Em there?
I have only a few local friends here who play cards with us, as the locals here mostly seem to only want to play their own games and don't invite foreigners to join in.
Of course, if a foreigner isn't supposed to win at a game, it is a red flag that tells me I don't want in that game anyway.

Maybe casinos here are the reason Duma doesn't want them there.
Yes, I know there are casinos in the Cebu area, but I don't know a foreigner or local who trusts them well enough to go to one unless they are very well connected politically.
