    Ceres Liners

    Hi all,

I have just been in PI for 5 weeks where I needed to drive most days on the National Highway between Zambo and Dumaguete and also north of the town. Looking in the rear view mirror and seeing a big yellow thing bearing down on you gets tedious and depressing - you either have to drive faster to keep clear or just let them pass and accept that you are more than likely going to be severely 'cut up'.

    Either the drivers...
A - Do not realise they are handling a long vehicle or havn't properly been assessed on a heavy goods vehicle.
    or
B - Take a malicious pleasure in terrifying other drivers.

On one occassion I had to brake very hard after being so badly cut-up that the alternative would have meant being physically pushed into a deep ditch. (I had 2 elderly ladies as passengers which was quite distressing for them.) There seemed no obvious reason why the driver did it since the road ahead was clear.

I have seen a Ceres Liner plough at speed through a group of schoolchildren milling around on either side of the road using the horn and hardly slowing at all.

Locals tell me that the 'standing joke' is that if a Ceres Liner runs you over it will back up over you again to make sure you're dead since that way the compensation is cheaper.

What to do about it?? I am now of a mind to at least write a letter to the Ceres Liner management to see what their response is? I would welcome any thoughts on this subject.

    Take care
    A Romany

    I got another one...

A friend of mine drove from Majong Tubig to Dumaguete with her Scooter, got into a police-control in Bacong. As she has (like most who riding a Scooters) no driving license, she had to pay a penalty. She did not have enough money with her, so the friendly police-officer had to confiscate her Scooter, but gave her his Scooter that she can drive home (alone) and get some more money for the penalty.

    cheers

    Rhoody

I was always told that the motorcylce would be impounded and NOT given back if the person had no license which is why I didn't let many of my friends borrow it.

    Agree with all the comments!

    Hi guys, Good day!

This is a great forum people! I am a fililipina I love the beauty of my country but you know beauty doesn't always mean perfection there's always a contrast to it.

This my experience, my husband and I always discuss about driving when we travel. One time we went to Cebu...the dogs there are not scared even with the big buses they sleep on the road...and one thing that really my husband irritate is the people on the road that doesn't think of the danger of getting run over...a lady washing her face in the road enough to be drag by any vehicle that will pass...then an accident the truck just run over the motorcycles with two riders on it one of the riders is injured bad he was thrown. The cause was the motorcycles try to avoid the sleeping ill dog on the road and then the truck was following the motorbike it was the truck driver wasn't watching or paying attention that he was driving, we were on the other lane. The distance wasn't that like really close the truck has time to see the slowing motorcyle, truck just drive tru them.

Five months ago I applied a drivers student permit...and I have to go thru a seminars so I did...we have wonderful traffic laws and regulation to all drivers for the safety of driving (everyone). We discuss Defensive driving,Techniques, Road Courtesy and Safety which ceres bus driver doesn't have last is the Driving Tips. Its a lot if I will discuss it here too. these seminars is held on the LTO Dumaguete Land Transfortation of the Philippines. After having those seminar I was surprised why is it there are a lot of drivers here doesn't know about the rules in driving and being courteous. Motorbikes is to me a problem here in Negros Dumaguete because its like 70% of them have no safety like helmets, no lights, no side mirrors. My husband and I attend Monday nights a couples fellowship in our church. Driving at nights scares me because some drivers drive a motorcycle at night with no lights at all as in nothing they drive slowly though they don't realize driving with no lights they put there life in danger and also the other drivers. some would just overtake suddenly pup up in front of you from the right side of the road which is very illegal some drivers turning on there signal as if they will turn to the left but they are turning to the right for the ceres bus driver and Jeepney they will overtake and then suddenly stop in front of your vehicle which is I don't know what word I would say or call that kind of drivers.

    have a nice day Guys.

Sometimes I like to take the Ceres and let the driver of the bus worry about the idiots that won't get back from the road.

They sit their asses on the road and won't move while a bus passes 2 feet from them at 90kph.

    Poor mans cheap thrills.

    Driving!!!!

About Driving again, I don't know if the Ceres bus drivers or most of the Pofessional drivers went to that LTO seminars before they get they're license. I have to go seminars that discuss the followings aside from my driving lessons:
    1.Defensive Driving
    a.)Factors that affect Driving
    1.Attitude 2.) Behavior 3.) Right Mental Attitude
    2.Keys to Effective Defensive Driving
1.)Concentration 2.)DRIVING PLANS AND DECISIONS 3.)VIEW FROM THE VEHICLE 4.)VISIONS AFFECTED BY SPEED etc.,etc.
    3.)DRIVING TECHNIQUES AND SAFETY
    4.) ROAD SAFETY
5.) TIPS IN DRIVING covers Driving at Night & Driving in the Rain
6.) DRIVING AND ALCOHOL- punishable by law
    7.) ROAD COURTESY
8.) International Traffic Signs -about signals turns and stops
    9.) Traffic signals-which dumaguete doesn't have
10.)Types and Meanings of Traffic Signs and Pavement Markings
    a.)Pavement Markings b.)SPEED LIMIT c.)RIGHT OF WAY d.)PASSING
e.) TURNING f.) Parking g.)etc., etc., a lot to discuss.

I did take the seminar seriously. After going to these seminars, I was wondering why lots of Public drivers doesn't know about these. Answer bribery and corruption...after living here in dumaguete for 4 years moving from Batangas City, My husband and I driving along the airport he is driving and we were caught of not using a seatbelt it was a surprise first time they did it. I have to go to LTO pay and claim his license take two days to do that waste of my time two days just pay for the penalty...because they don't know yet what to do I guess, the guy is holding my ticket sitting down and standing up in front of his computer I have a patient to wait I need the license no choice it was our fault. But my big question is If the LTO caught us for not using seatbelt why they cannot stop those people driving in vehicles with no safety, no lights at night that is more dangerous than not wearing seatbelts.

Talking about getting my license and driving...I went to that driving school lessons...paid full for everything no refund...the vehicle they are using is not registered learned after lessons. I think I was very excited about driving that I did not even search about the school. So anyway done with the lessons so I'm finished with my student permit I have to proceed with my non-pro drivers license. As you know filipino doing transactions in any business like banks, paying water bills, electric bills same in LTO wait for a long long time even though they have computers still very very very slow! Its a waste of my time and life instead of spending it to my family doing something. but as a filipino I have to deal with it and live with it and lovin it, a part of our life already, too much waiting. So I went there to get the license you have to pass the written exam and then the actual driving that the examiner give a points if you will pass on the actual driving as what it say on the test paper they gave me and the examiner guy. So did the exam I pass get the medical and everything the last one is the actual. The examiner told me I have to bring the vehicle that I driven so I called the school that is the time I learned the vehicle is not registered thats why I cannot used it...stupid me doing all these. So the next day went back to LTO told the situations. They even told me they have free driving lessons if I went there and study I did not waste my money. I kind of worried now I want to drive with license besides my husband won’t allow me to touch the car even the steering wheel without a license. Told them that too...they even kid not to let my husband touch me too. But anyway to make it short...they give me a non-pro temporary ID which is valid for five months after that they will issue the permanent ID...my husband said I was cute and beautiful that’s why even them they give my license without exam (am I wrong having my license with no exams?...yah)...hahahaha to me I was happy I want a license but promise to drive carefully that even now I'm afraid to drive knowing all those reckless drivers out there that really scares me a lot. I don't know how to overcome it I have to start driving when my kids go to school no guts yet to do that. When I went to that driving lesson we were not driving on the highways we have to drive to camanjac away from people police traffic I understand now the good thing I got my license guys so I'm happy. My husband takes me for driving from time to time.

Talking about laws and regulations, by the way its not all laws are implemented I think its for displays so people will know that there is law hanging there to show so don't be scared about it. The driving school owner told me if I just let her process to get my license i will not go thru that trouble getting exams they can get my license without me showing myself at LTO. Bribery is the reason why we have lots of reckless, rude uneducated about driving rules and regulations for the safety of everyone that drives. Even though its not impose, you know, but it’s up to each and everyone to be careful to take responsibilities that the road is for everyone and we are responsible for the safety of our self and to others too. Calling for the government enforcer to do there job and hoping someday these will change and everyone in the government (Police traffic enforcer) will take there job seriously.

Anyway have a nice day to every one.

Folks, it's not Western europe or the North America...
Your not going to change how Ceres bus divers drive , believe me. They are trained by peers to drive the way they do, is by design. They have big insurance, and this may shock you genteel types, but if they run over somebody, they are advised to back up. Cheaper to pay one time death benifit, than long term reovery costs.
Best advice, stay out of there way period.
I ride them a lot, In the mileu that they deal with they are highly skilled if not seemingly reckless. I have gotten used to it. If you want a smoother trip, take the aircon buses, they have the older seasoned drivers who don't have to prove themslves as much.

What to do about Ceres Liner drivers?

Some of you think that the Ceres Liner drivers will never change?? To change them it is their employers who need to change - the Ceres Liner company and senior managers. It seems as if they are prepared to run a company which does not obey the laws of the land, and will endanger their fellow citizens by accepting the unacceptable driving culture of their employees. If the employers were doing their job they would fine or sack the dangerous drivers, and give them extra guidance on proper driving methods.

How to change the employers?? Publicity and legal action that threatens to harm the Ceres Liner company and the employers own status, income or jobs? Perhaps shaming them with articles in the paper may affect their attitude and try to bring in a better company driving ethos?

Although there are plenty of bad drivers on the roads, I do feel as if the Ceres Liners are amoungst the worst and most dangerous. A company like that should be setting a good example and maybe others will start to follow for the benefit of everybody.

I am prepared to collate feedback on the Ceres Liners driving attitude, and draft a letter to be sent to the Ceres Liner company and the local paper to see what the response is from the company itself.

Please post replies on this forum to tell me what you guys think about this.

    Take care
    Romany
