Never is a long time, but I suppose if you want to pin your hat to a crusade to reform Ceres liners that's ok. I have better things to do with my time. Why not the Tricycle drivers, or the V-hire drivers, they are far worse. The real issue here is they is no enforcement, no accountability, laws are routinely ignored by eveyone.

You can ride a metro bus in Manila and get the same ride, I was once dumped in the middle of a four lane highway to find my own next ride after the bus I was riding broke down. No refund no transfer. Welcome to the Philippines.

The first time I came to Dumaguete,we got a motorcab from the pier and it hit a motorcycle going the opposite way, when the motorcab was overtaking a lorry.
The motorcyclist was in a bad way because he wasn't moving.I'm sure the driver of the motorcab was drunk,we decided to leave the scene as we didn't want to get involved.

As bad as it might sound, that is absolutely the best advice for foreigners (or visiting Filipinos). You don't want to be around if police show up at an accident. You may be held liable as you hired the drunk Trike driver. It has happened. Also if you are in any way involved in a minor motorbike accident where you are driving, leave the scene if descretely possible.
As a visitor you will be the one liable, 90% of the time, no matter what the cause.

Getting back to the tricycle drivers, their habits some times include drinking heavily during the slow mid day hours, then off to drive to deliver commuters and school kids in the afternoon. Not to say they are all like that, but it happens. They are hard workers, and sometimes hard drinkers as well. Driving drunk seems to be accepted and goes without penalty.

Hi RBH,thanks for your reply and advice. The main reason we left the scene quickly was because I was worried we might be forced to go to court as a witness. This would be very difficult as we had intended return to the UK.Also it was clearly the cab drivers fault.Whom incidentally ran back over from the motorcyclist laying on the ground to collect his fare, when he saw us leaving!
Our friend was riding"side saddle"on the motorcab and had a bump on his knee, due to the collision,he was lucky it could of been far worst for him.He said,he normally would never ride "side saddle"for that reason.

Ps Is there a spell checker facility on these posts? If so how is it used?

Hi Enigma, if you quote another post yo will find the spell-check in the upper right corner above the smileys.

If you make a normal reply, you have to click "go advanced" first and then again on top of the smileys

    cheers

    Rhoody

RHB ,I can reflect on this on one near experience in 2004 visit. We were driving late near midnight back to the house up north, the road wasn't lit at all ,no houses but all stretch of sugar cane farm on both sides , only this little tiny moon up in the sky that give little glow,it was cloudy and even drizzly ,when suddenly i spot a little a lump right in middle of the road just meters before the wheel runs over it ,hubby stopped lucky enough , ofcourse interestly it's a human body. This happened between Manjuyod-Bais .All left were mangled gut feelings and came in a flash all those violent -thrillers ,murders ,even horror films i've watched , put us on edge to come out and check ,or rather just to leave what we saw and hit the road. But somehow of something i couldn't leave with , if the person is alive and we left him out there to get run over .Another is if it could be that will rot hubby in jail ,all dark thoughts keep flashing .It was such a dilemma at that time if we ever come out to see ,if what we'll do be right or wrong .In the end we decided to check it out , was a local young guy around in his early 20's and he was alive slighty injured lying next to his motorcycle, bit dopey, have cuts in his arms but not bad ,very incoherent as he spoke ,smells of strong alcohol .In only seconds difference ,this Yellow mighty King of the road that knows no bounds ,the Ceres bus came like doing 100km/hr .We stopped it otherwise this guy will get crashed . Then heads of passengers poking out of the windows to look at the scene ,the bus conductor and driver came out,had a little chat then continued. I thought people in the bus might have close impression we might have hit the guy.He was able to stand up himself and help him moved to the grassy edge nxt to the road together with his motor bike. The Ceres bus left. Can't do much ,don't know where his from, unsure to let him inside the car though but perhaps that's the last option we could do to get him to Manjuyod police station to spend the night .Lucky there was another fella in his motor bike going in the same direction and was able to identify this young man ,a son of so and so in Manjuyod. What this older guy did was chat with him and got him to his motorbike is such surprise then off they went in slow pace.We followed them behind til the town of Manjuyod.

Anything could have evolved from that incident .That could have got us into serious trouble if it came out as a ploy for road robbery ( you never know these days) that could extremely go wrong or we get framed to be the baddy , but then was relieved it wasn't as bad as we thought could be.Self preservation and not doing heroics might be sensible because things might go sour beyond your imaginations , holiday in hell ,that's the word . But so hard to make fix decisions for all ,but perhaps to weigh its worth depending on each circumstances.

It's there somewhere, but I think you have to download software to use it.
