New to this blog. Have never blogged before so here goes.

Introduce myself: I'm a retired U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant (E7), Computer System Manager, 52 years old. Was married for 22 years (wife is deceased) and have 3 children (all grown) and 6 grandchildren. Like to snorkel, fish, drink beer and shoot the bull.

I've been searching for the right place to retire/live in the Philippines for the last 7 plus years. I've lived in Northern Luzon (San Fernando, 1 yr), Central Luzon (Angeles City, 3 yrs), Leyte (Tacloban, 2 yrs) and now Eastern Samar (Borongan, 16 months).

For various reasons I was not content with these areas and moved on. Moved from Tacloban to Borongan looking for quiet and clean atmosphere. Borongan has that but nothing else (No western food at all) and very few Foreigners so very few people to talk to.

Dumagette was recommended to me by a friend in Angeles who lived there until he split up with his girlfriend who was from there. He loved it but had to leave for personal reasons. I'm not married or attached to anyone so can live anywhere I want (don't have to live close to her family).

I've read most of this blog and seems like "this might be the place", has a fair foreigner population, good eating spots, low crime rate, night life, clean air and nice locals.

I plan on visiting the first or second week of July for about a week or more. I'm coming by way of Ormoc, Leyte. I know how to get to Cebu by ferry but not how to get from Cebu to Dumagette. Probably not to difficult but, any information will be appreciated. Also can anyone suggest a decent hotel in a central area of the city or on the boardwalk/beach area and anything else you think I should know.

I love teachers, they make you do it till you get it right!

    HI Bobby,

Welcome to DI, great to have you here on board. nice intro

Getting to Duma from Cebu id like you though pretty easy, you can fly Mo,Wed,Fri early morning with Cebu Pathetic, go by bus from Early morning to late afternoon many times (around 5 hours), take several ferries (between 5 and 7 hours)

so at the end of your day it comes down to your preferred way of traveling, budget, luggage and so on.

    Decent hotels downtown:
    Hotel Palwa
    Hotel Nicanor

    cheers for now

    Rhoody

Welcome to the board. I've done a lot of Island hoping over the last five years and this is about my favorite. Enough to make me move here and settle in for a while.

    So "come on down"
