    Yabs,

Get real man....You ARE the saddest sack of all....seemingly with every post you've ever made on this board it's quite obvious you're the most miserable person in the RP....Look man, you have issues with race, issues with progress, issues with people's choice of food, issues with people's right to bare children, on and on.

Listen, I know of a few places that have made virtually NO PROGRESS at all, maybe you'd like to move there....every heard of North Korea? Myanmar? Cuba?

actually i really like the phils
it only upsets me its changing foir the worse
and that all has to do with the wrong sets of peoiple going there
    ie americans and North Asians
europeans and aussies have only made a positive conbtribution
all the good restuarants and resorts are invaribaly aussie or euro owned
its unfo nate that two sets of people with the worst cultures
and tastes have to descend on mass and bring with them thier version of home
to all these people i say if you can't feel at home without amrican malls and fast food then PLEASE stay at home
why do you come if you don't like the lack of these things?
    answer me that

Hey I like the Philippines just as much as the next person, but I do enjoy a having a variety of food choice in a given place...and that's what I would like to see in Duma...Italian, Mexican, Chinese, and yes...even a big mac once in a while. I believe in a free and open market in a free society, and if people want malls and fast food, then malls and fast food they shall have. Neither you, me, or anyone else have the right to deny them that or throw verbal abuses at them when they make that choice...this is their home afterall.

North Asians? Drawing a pretty wide bow there...probably 99% of the Japanese I've met have been very decent and nice people....even as tourists in the Philippines...and Australia for that matter....I quite like Japanese...

Americans in PI? You are joking...from what I've seen whenever there is a disaster or any civic assistance to be done in the Philippines...American residents are in there like a shot to help....glad to see some Aussies joining in lately too....I've also noticed that Americans are often pretty good at helping out expats in trouble....

I can't see any problems with whatever nationalities that come in and reside in Dgte .We can only look on to coexist with diff races in peaceful way and so far that is in this multi cultural community in Dgte. Infact various nationalities that come in bringing in with them bigger bulk of money and are contributing to the economy ,some bringing in with them new ideas ,influences and jobs for people ,making a variety for dumaguete for the better like this new Italian restaurant ( I have yet to try ),the music box or 'Why not' which has some european ambience ,when it first opened in we quite liked it and people flock in there and now. It's nice to have something diff to go to,not just purely all filipino stuff.I am fili but I appreciate variety. Perhaps when there's big foreign expat community in Dumaguete ,hopefully there will be good deli shops opened ,with fresh salamis, sausages, pates, variety of cheeses, fresh milk, variety of yugorts etc or an ethnic grocery that sells sauces ,spices from carribean to indian, chinese varieties etc.C'mon the more we have variety of places to go to,the more the better ,and the more merrier .

Spot on. I couldn't have said it better my self. I'm not sure why this poster called yabs is upset with the world but I've also seen many of his posts and he exemplifies that life is not always too short for some people because why bother living a life of misery? I kinda like to balance it all out myself, but then again, that's just me.

Wow is this country bashing ? A land where so many people live like rats in hovels and need a second mortage to buy a steak? Wow,where did you go then? This is stereotyping .The UK isn't that worse man, speaking from my filipino point of view in material circumstances. If you have visited those rough stinky places and have foul experiences , but they don't represent entirely of the UK . Those remarks are sour and labelling .Only because of the very outspoken yabs , you seem targetting people in this country with your message. Every country has its own problems ,uk has it's own, and I am expecting US and australia are no exceptions .The US position isn't the same it was before,it has its own problems too. I have relatives over there who r trying to sell their homes and took a long time and many homes have devalued ,some worried with speculation its only a tip of the iceberg.Though you said many here live like rats in hovels , but look in Spain and other countries of europe the british are in forefront of buying second holiday properties in those countries like Spain, portugal ,france etc.Money is there and it speaks . It's not all that bad here .Unemployment is low . London is now the global financial centre ,not NY as it was before, though this doesn't affect ordinary citizens lifestyle ,but this only shows the british economy is doing well.Where can one get a free degree in nursing,Social Work, subsidized degree courses in teaching, etc but in the UK .Few years ago even foreigners from non EU countries benefited this generous UK system ,some even abuse this system which pissed me off .Let the foreigners speak ,they will tell you. If you take up degree in Nursing, apart from it's free you get about close to £700 non means tested bursary every month for free and plus child care if one has child.I have meet several Zimbabweans ,cypriots ,even canadians who come here to study nursing .Whether a student is from a rich or poor background they get all this degree free with lovely bursary...almost like P60,000 (pesos)/month given by uk government for each one as pocket money while studying with no return ,lovely system isn't it ,only to expect the service back once the student is finished but with full salary, they wont take back the money they gave .I know one irish girl who took nursing for 2 years and decided its not her cuppa tea.Although she enjoyed the bursary and the two yrs free nursing tuition, she run off to Dublin .Bump on her again 2 yrs later, and knew the govt didn't even question or take back the free money she enjoyed for those 2 yrs .This is only one example showing how generous this country is and even made itself an attractive haven and destination for illegal immigrants .This a country that gives many people a chance to live a relatively better decent life .Though people moan about how rip off this place can be ,it's true taxes are mad , but guess many don't see the good side and hardly appreciate what their country has offered to them.

This country isn't perfect but has a lot to offer, great education, security, houses though are bloody expensive the negative side, which doesn't look bright for the new starters, where the average houses cost a little above £200,000 or $400,000 or a lot more in other areas and they are tiny ,ok is this why people live like rats ,lols .If you earn less than £50K you hardly get decent house, hammered by increasing interest rates too.

The UK has lovely towns ,cities and countrysides from england, wales ,to scotland ,are beautiful, with rolling hills ,stately homes ,castles ,mountains ,love victorian houses , seaside towns ,amazing gardens ... a country with long history ,i can go on and on.It's beautiful here in the,UK,not like hell hole. Dunno where garb had been to in this country ,I'm sorry for his sad experience , it doesn't seem nice those places he went to ,rough places ,guess so,never visit those areas if i were u ,must be trouble and one should swear never to come back ,lols .

The UK has mild winters, and don't suffer any extreme weather conditions like in the continental US or Australia ( but isn't down under facing severe water shortage in the future ,that's scary ?). I love the summers here, but ofcourse not this summer ,because of too much rain, sad thing of the UK,the weather sometimes .This is one of the major reasons why many brits are going out to live /buy prperties abroad . You don't have to be a lot better off here to have few short breaks abroad , like going to Paris,Prague,Barcelona, Lisbon,Brugge, Copenhagen or Oslo etc and can fly only for short haul
flights and need not spend necessarily too much . If living here in the southeast like us,we can have a day in France by driving through crossing the channel tunnel for 30 minutes to do shopping in Calias France, for just the sausages /salamis and drinks ,have dinner in fortressed city of Bologne ,or just down the seaside of Le Toquette or to opposite direction to Dunkirk ,Belgium, and go back to dear ol' england for bed time,we enjoy that .Other european cities are very close, you can fly to Frankfurt in just an hour, and not spend massive .A holiday for the US,fine and great for now £1=$2 ,it's a lovely rate .But I would not alter my position to live in America for any change . Life here is good.Sorry garbs,i have to buy and say my bit.

ps. I also love the brit accent too , with the real english ...not the english language bastardized by webster . lols.

i think you are missing tne point
Dumaguete is a very quail nt and charming place and i do not want to see it ruined by thoughtless development and globalization
why is that so difficult to understand?
I am not one to say "mai pen rai" or what will be will be"?
that attitude has never got anyone any where
if i don't like something i speak my mind
thetre is no reason for ther place not to develop and not lose its charm at the same time
rome, lisbon and many historic places have developed but kept their charmn also
I'm jus worried that with all the greed and corruption in this part of the world
that this will not be the case here
money seems to be the only thing that talks so if someone wants to build a tacky mall or a Macd's completely out of keeping wiht the rest of
the place then noone seems to mind or bat an eyelid
    apart from me.
development need not come at he expense of good taste
