This probably doesn't make any sense. lol

Don't worry Yabs, there's always the Spratley Islands to move to when progress and tackiness come knocking down Dumaguete's door one time too much. lol :D

Or anywhere in North Africa for that matter. As well as North Korea, Cuba, Afghanistan, and of course......Antartica. lol Those places have a place reserved for you just in case you find the tackiness taking over too fast. I don't think they have a Mcdonald's in those places. Or do they? HHHMMMM....

Wow what can I! say, Dumaguete is the city of gentle people thats why I was looking forward to the visit.I love the way of life in the Philippines but to be honest I have thought, how do all those shopping malls make money when so many people have so little money.Tourism will bring jobs and employment for lots of people, but sadly everything comes at a price.

Isn't Spatley Is disputed? It seems very unlikely Philippines will be able to claim it. Too bad, it might be the lucky break Phiilppine needs to get out of poverty in the future.

Lucky to get out of poverty?
I think you will find Gomez thats its overpopulation and corruption which
keeps the country "poor" as you say although the people in oower are anything but poor

Yes overpopulation and corruption, and also the brain-drain of OFWs (which, I suppose is a symptom of overpopulation/corruption).
But Spatleys is a different animal, because it is believd to have humongous oil and gas reserves.
