⌛ oh dear

I think science will find new discoveries to clean up the envirement, things we probably never thought of today.In london in the 1890s people were saying the roads would be impassable in 20years because of the amount of horse manure, then came the motor car, the manure problem was solved, but the car brought it's own problems. science is moving so fast today, I think there is hope, people are aware of the problem and that was not the case 20 years ago.

 

Regardless whether people of other countries view the US as an example to follow, we could be doing a much better job than we are. It's annoying to me that in spite of high gasoline prices and the obvious impact on the environment gasoline consumption in the US is still increasing.
President Arroyo is a graduate student of economics and comes from a family of astute politicians. She knows that to keep the masses content requires economic growth. There is no denying that the Philippine economy is growing under her administration. The oligarcy must perform a continual balancing act between maintaining this growth and keeping their power base. The hope is that with increased prosperity will come increased progression in the political and environmental arenas.
All developing nations to date have gone through a period of industrialization that has included high levels of pollution to their respective environments. It's a "catch 22" scenario. Reducing pollution levels while improving living standards takes money which requires economic growth which requires industrialization which causes pollution. Unfortuanately, the world has never experienced the level of increased industrialization that we're now witnessing in Asia.

 

The world has also never seen the amazing communication pipeline that is the Internet. Hopefully the Internet can be used as an educational tool to bring political and environmental awareness to people that would otherwise be left in the dark.
