sorry folks back to the original post.

Is there anybody on this post that has an SRRV visa?

We are considering moving to the Philippines on a SRRV visa. I like to know if there are any members in this forum that have done so and have experiences about this. If you do I like to hear about them, like was it easy, is it the best way to be there, pitfalls etc.

    Banks and visas

Not really. I know foreign nationals, who are happy to use China Bank. Personally I am a satisfied customer of Bank of Commerce. Only wish that they would introduce homebanking soon, as they have said for a long time, that they plan to do.

As for the different kinds of visa, I am by no means an expert. Would just like to draw the attention to the fact, that it is now possible to stay for up to 24 month in the country on a turist visa. Only requirement is, that you pay your visa extension fee every 2 month, and after 16 month you need to go to Manila. Approximate cost for the visa extensions is 1.000 peso pr. month, so should be affordable to all foreign nationals.

After 24 month you need to go somewhere else, e.g. for a weekend to Bangkok or Singapore, but then you can start a new 24 month period again.

In my country (Denmark) you can now also purchase a visa, that is valid for 12 month and allows multible entrys to the country. The price of that is about 5.000 peso. If you are planning to visit your home country once a year, this might be the easiest and cheapest alternative.

Hi Moving allong,we had a SRRV,A right headache to get ,what with medicals, countless trips to Cebu and Bribes. We have lost it now, because we left the Philippines for more then 6 months.
It's only worth getting if you staying permanently.Even if you want to leave for a short time you have to get immigration clearance.I have a friend in Dipolog, who has lived there for 14 years with his filipina wife and he just takes the boat to Malaysia every year and re-enters on a Balykbyan visa, this suits him fine.

Are you sure you had it? What you say don't make sense, Enigma.
I have SRRV, and it was a painless process through the PRA in Manila. They do everything for you because they make a chunk of money from their cut of the interest from your bank deposit.
They are not your typical Phil gov't corrupt offices.
They have extremely nice offices with aircon, like the exclusive lounges you see in private banks for the rich. They even offer you coffee while waiting in plush chairs.
    They DON'T take bribes.
Maybe you confusing SRRV with something else, or Philippines with somewhere else dude.

    Morning TodayinPhil

    Thanks for the reply.

So you have this visa and it runs smooth? Can you say more about it?

Do you also do work (as one is allowed to work on this visa) and how is that with returning tax in the Philippines?

Did you bring a spouse? Any problems or tips there?

Did you originally apply in your home country or while in the Philippines/Manila?

Did you than import your own household goods? Any hassle at costumes?

Lots pf questions, hope you have time to answer.

    Looking forward to your reply.

I completely agree with the above statements. They all are similar to my own experiences.

How can you have such different experiences ?
A right headache to get: It was very simple and arranged in 1 day (at my arrival in Manila). Had to go back to receive the card in 2 weeks.
Even if you want to leave for a short time you have to get immigration clearance: Officially maybe true....but I had no problem at all (without any notice) to leave the country after 18 month for a holliday to my 'home' country.

    Moving allong:
I am not married. I did already apply in my home country. I did import my home goods (taxfree, because of SRRV), No hassle at all (not opened even) but of course it needs a processing route (prepare yourself well).
Hope this does not scare you off anymore.
Problem is indeed (as Sumisid mentioned in the start of this thread) that the returning of your deposited money can take a long way since quite some documents are required to proof that you have fulfilled the rules of refunding.
But if you're not dependend on that money, it's no problem: You get your yearly interest and you don't have to pay the yearly fee as long as your deposited money is still on the bank.
    Succes in your decision.
