You should research who and how this list was composed....

NOT arguing that the Philippines is "not corrupt"....just questioning the validity of this list and how it was derived.... the Singapore (? if memory serves) based business group that creates this list admits the bottom listed countries are "interchangeable"
The data is the OPINION of foreign businessmen in the countries listed..... it is NOT scientific..... and in some countries like the Philippines they ask 14 businessmen.....whereas in other countries there are only two or three businessmen who participate

One can only wonder about the "self fulfilling" aspects of this list..... if a businessman is repeatedly told he is in the most corrupt country.....and the government (Arroyo) publicly agrees with the list.....why would the businessman "think" different

AND.... a statistic is a snap shot.... good for when it was taken.....maybe?.... but it has no lifespan.... and will probably not be valid by the time it is published

    (33.892%..... I got the sarcasm......)

you mean about the Philippines or about and from the philippines..

if the second it still can be used against mosquitos... but not as reliable souce, like basically all medias in the PI (unless there is a lot of blood and gore involved)

before the Spaniards came here there were no Philippines anyway... there were plenty of islands, tribes (if can be called like that) and languages. the main population were Muslim.

then again, it does not matter what was even yesterday, there will be no changes tomorrow if people don't open their eyes, accept the reality (even it is hard).

As long as teenagers get educated to a level that 20 peso unlimited load is more important than bringing home a half kilo of rice and are still so proud to be "xxx-ian" even without any future outlook, the government get exactly what keeps them in power. Millions of uninterested individuals who couldn't care less.

Most people take them with a grain of salt..... they have limited value

Mark Twain once took the statistics from the Mississippi River and "proved" (?) the ever widening river would soon reach California.....

Al Gore has made millions from his use of statistics that have yet to be proven valid.... according to him.....most of you guys living on the beach will need SCUBA gear to use your own bathroom soon

The label of being "most honest" was bestowed by Chinese traders....recorded twice over a long period of trading.... they carried on a brisk trade with the Datu (Muslims) here in the islands.... there were people here before the Muslims ....Negritos on this island..... and there is archeological evidence of extensive occupation before the Muslims..... but I believe the Chinese were referring to the Muslims as they were well educated and skilled craftsmen

As to the modern people.....Hope you are wrong but the more they tolerate graft and corruption.....the more it erodes their normal culture.....at some point the culture will change and the damage will be irreversible

When a Filipino challenged his sister for her graft and corruption.....her response was...."It is standard, everybody does it"....sad

Rhoody.... there are probably no valid history books.....
Africans have a saying: "If the lion wrote the story of the safari, the hunter would never win"
All history is recorded with a bias..... If you read the American history books you would think American fleet was engaged in a life and death struggle with the Spanish.... when in fact they laid off and blew the Spanish ships to pieces from a distance.... they even took a lunch break....they later worked a deal with the Spanish garrison commander to shell the waterfront harmlessly.....and give the garrison a chance to peacefully surrender....
History is written by the victors for their own purposes
Japanese school history books hardly mention WW II..

which brings us back to the original article posted by arkis51. That IS sadly the normal culture nowadays ..
Each time I hear how proud somebody is on his/her culture,
simply reply: Great, what is that culture?
usual answer: our Philippine culture !
re-ask: and what is that Philippine culture ?

... that will go on until you hear:

    1.) you are a foreigner you don't understand !
2.) why are you here ?
3.) go back to your country if you don't like?

... what still won't answer the original question...

PS: btw, I am sure european history books about some 100 years ago are usually better than american or Filipino. simply due to the relative fast access to neighboring sources without traveling to other continents or oversea, therefore more balanced and controlled. In that times and still historians in europe were/are working very close together.. but again, that is the past and has nothing to do with the actual situation here...
