    Forgot to ask

Tim , did you get this design from the Florida Keys. Looks like a stilt house and design you would find there.

The design is by Pete Piper and his team based in Kona, Hawaii.

I understand the concern about "getting burned by the Filipina" and I know many that have. My wife and I have been together for 14 years now. Believe me when I say (and I hope others will not take offense) but she is not your typical Filipina. I know this will be taken as a biased statement but she is the finest woman I have ever known, Filipina, American or otherwise.
Regardless, I control the money and not everything will be invested in the Philippines which expresses her trust in me as well.

    Marky,

I guess it's all right to rip everyone else on the forum like Americans but when you get a taste of your own venom, you can't handle it.

    What's going on here!

Yes, Marky's house is ugly, but to all the filipinos on Earth, its grand and spectacular. That makes the situation sad. Filipinos definitely have their own sense of splash. Just take a look at Imelda Marcos. That's the quintessential grandeur of the Philippines. Marky, don't get upset. Fact is a fact. Oh, yeah, you are not a FACT-MAN. You believe 9/11 was staged by U.S. government. Enough said about where your sense of taste and grandeur come from.

And Timster's house. This is another example of someone trying to do something that is unrealistic. You can't design a tropical home just because Philippines is in the tropics. Philippines is not Florida and its certainly not St. Barts. With a house like that, you will burn up electricity like there is no tomorrow, and burglers will be having midnight snack with you every night.

On the one hand, we got taste-challeged people who are defensive about their ugly houses and on the other hand, we got mentally-challenged ones fantasizing that they are living in St. Barts. What's going on here!

    Tim's House is a Winner

I think Tims' house will be perfect for the Philippines. Up off the ground will keep away many insects and folooding. His electric consumption should be no issue as well. If he plans it properly, he will most likely have blinds, shades and or tinted glass.Solar power for hot water. He will probably also have cool breezes off the sea to limit air conditioning consumption. Also money is irrelevant to this conversation as who can judge what is in his own pocket but Tim himslef. As for break-in's, I suspect he will have helpers and other protection devices. If any house is perfect for this country it is this one. The only think I would consider adding are Typhoon pull down shutters.

Absolutely uncalled for name-calling on your part. You have no clue what my plans are and are completely out of line. Also, reviewing your posts to date you have a propensity for negative comments. How about something on the positive side?

    Apologies

I apologize. I meant your picture was of mentally-challenged design for Phillippines. I did not mean to call YOU mentally-challenged.

I am sure I will post positive ones. Obviously there are more positive sides to living in Philippines than negatives for me, which is the reason why I am living here.

Thank you. For a start, you could go to the thread where architecture is being discussed rather than this thread about foreign ownership of land. There, you can rationally discuss your perceived shortcomings of that design, amongst others, in a logical fashion.

Do you think Florida and St Barts residents will be spared from burglars with this type of house? No way sir. It's worse there in Florida (Miami, etc) than in Philippines when it comes to home invasion, et etc. Even if you have a concrete door they'll force themselves to come in. They would kill the homeowners sometimes and burn down the house to cover up the crime. So I must say, this type of house that timn8ter and wife are going to build is just perfect for the philippine weather. And this type of house with wrapped around veranda or porch is typical in the Philippines waaay... back then. Go for it timn8ter!
