Going from Asia to the US the ships are full. Going from USA to Asia they are relatively empty, so shipping companies sell space at a very discounted rate. Balikbayan companies buy this space and fill it with containers full of your BB boxes.

So, in a nutshell, shipping to the USA is much more expensive than sending a BB box to the RP.

P.S. You leaving already? You just got here!

True! The balikbayan company I used in CA will ship ANYTHING! They just charge by the cubic inch if it is not a balikbayan box. The pickup driver told me about a guy from CA who shipped an ultra-light airplane with them!

What i still cannot understand is why ocean kayaks are double the price in the phils as they are made in Nz so shipping to the uk is much farther than the phils?????????

And that parcel i sent with dhl took 48hrs to get there and 10 days to sort out the customs tax even though dhl had my card details to pay with,is it always this slow?

    Welcome to the PI

 Welcome to the PI davy! You are paying by card, so they will argue WHO! does the paperwork! If you paid by cash they will only argue about the Split. This takes less time :D It may well be Quicker to Paddle the Kayak here,:D

    Hope you get it sorted.

I usually by from a website in CA. What we do so as not to pay tax (since we tried Fed Ex and men the tax wat p2,000 for a pair of shoes), we choose world mail. though it will usually take 3weeks to 1 month to reach here, but it's worth the wait. That is, if you are willing to wait that long. And one more thing, there is no tracking number. But it reached out and we did it several times.

World Mail? Can you elaborate? I have not heard of this...

I have used USPS International Priority...out of 6 packages, one never made it. Those that did arrive took 3 weeks to as much as 5 weeks around Christmas time.

I have used Forex Balikbayan service...boxes arrived, but took about 8 to 9 weeks from the middle of the US to Dmgte.
