Well...............the Casaroro Falls has made a VERY big hole.
If I reach there I always get very thirsty
C_rymz, if bars have to close at 10 PM .... then I will rethink my plans :D
    (just joking)
So that is probably the reason I do'nt see (yet) some good bars and restaurants there.
But I can understand the reasoning to keep it a quite place.

I think it will work out. With a nice facility, descent billiard table, ice cold drinks. Similar to that nice place at agan-an. I forgot the name..Gina's? Anyway, with regards to the curfew..we all could get started early in the afternoon..get wasted by 9pm, then sleep early and start over the next day fresh and energized..haha. Good luck with the project!

There is a small group of expats (me included) that drink sometimes in the late afternoon at Din store, caddy corner from the market. Beer is cheap and usually cold.

Yes, town ordinance says no business can run past 10PM, but it's ok for the disco to run until 2 am, and the church to wake everyone up at 3 am.

We have kicked around the idea of a small eatery/bar up here for quite some time, and in fact spent quite a bit of time observing and talking to people about it. I think it would support itself, but I don't think it would support much more than that. Location is the key, needs to be somewhere right near the market, as Wayne found out.

Mia's is the place you are thinking of. And I agree that something like that would be a nice addition and would succeed. (Succeed meaning support itself and maybe a small profit, but this is certainly not a business that would make one rich even by Philippine standards.)

A place like that may be able to work something out with the mayor/council for some type waiver or enabling ordinance that would allow them to stay open a little later, yet still place prohibitions against businesses that might encourage unruly behavior. This is common overseas and in larger cities in the Philippines...for example, the ordinance could call for a special permit with substantial fee and that the establishment have a minimum size, meet construction standards, have air conditioning and be located in certain areas only (i.e., non-residential). That would prevent the all-night videoke drink-fest places...

    Agree with you 100%.
When I first went to Paphos in Cyprus, it was a small and very beautiful fishing village where you could sit on the jetty and feed the pelicans. The runway was just a grass strip in a nearby field. It was its isolation and simplicity that gave it its charm and peacefulness.

Now it is a concrete monstrosity, an eyesore cloned from similar eyesores, with all the charm of an open coffin.

Keep it simple Valencia. It's not exactly an arduous journey in to Dumaguete to socialise.
