I think traffic snarling jeepneys would be better, some of them with the drivers still in them, lol!

Many years ago I helped Bantay Dagat set artificial reefs off Mactan and off Argao in Cebu. They used two types, one a pyramid of bamboo tied together with monofilament the other old tires secured with wire rope. We set these to provide habitat for fish to be harvested by indigenous fishermen. It was part of the anti dynamite fishing campaign. I don't imagine the bamboo lasted very long and the tires looked like an underwater rubbish dump.
I just can't see tourists flying thousands of miles to see some old tricycles or jeepneys on the seafloor, that even after 20 years will look like an underwater junk yard.
There was a guy up in Bantayan that was welding up some nice sculptures from rebar that provided shelter for fish and that were probably fairly attractive on the bottom.

Hello, Kojak! Thank you for your invite. Hopefully next week I'll be able to do this. Yes, please kindly introduce me to the head of Marine Biology and also the editor of Negros Chronicle. That would be awesome!

I've seen the Mayor of Dgte. in our RC gatherings. I haven't approached him though regarding this issue. But I will someday.

Again, I'm amenable to your suggestion. Thanks so much for hooking me up with the right people. I will try very hard to convince my colleagues in the Sangguniang Panlungsod and the Local Chief Executive in Tanjay City as well.

Seeya soon, friend! Will update you very soon. Thanks again!

I understood there have been some serious issues with attempting to use used tires for artificial reef building. Here on Puget Sound they have been trying to clean up old sites of used tires, real mess...

Yes, that's why I don't think it's a good idea to be using tires. By the way, a while ago I was told by a reliable source in our City Hall that we have a marine sanctuary in Tugas and Polo, Tanjay. I told him that would be perfect! Now we could make a dive site out of it and have it protected, plus, since I'm already in too deep in this endeavor to set up an artificial reef I talked with more people and they told me they could help. I was told that there were also lots of condemned vehicles owned by the City, and that as a member of the Rotary Club of Tanjay City, that I could just pass a resolution asking for a donation of vehicle frames to be used as artificial reef that will be placed nearby our marine sanctuaries or at a distance where the seabed is featureless. I was also directed to the Farm & Sea committee head who happens to be a barangay captain also. I will still have to talk to him about it. I also have a contact in the House of Representatives and he promised me that he'll ask for help from the Committee on Ecology. The editor of Negros Chronicle also has some contacts and accommodated me well during our meeting thru an avid member here, Capt. Hughs a.k.a. Kojak. Not only are we going to use vehicle frames that are well-cleaned and rid of fluids, but also since our city hall annex is being constructed and old buildings are being destroyed to make way, that we could also use those construction debris as an optional artificial reef. I will still need to put everything in order, so this will definitely take time but I'm willing to devote myself to make this a reality in the near future.

I guess that's about everything for now.

Great news Sir Gerard. Good work Sir Kojak. I am sure it can be a big ecological success
And a very good example for others on your 7000 + beautiful Islands. Take care.:D:smile:
