One area of Dumaguete City to see is up in the higher elevation past the Valencia Park. Its a private reserve that is owned by the Mayor of Dumaguete which is a rain forest with waterfalls and hiking trails. The park has picnic areas and swimming holes. Need special permission from the mayor to visit this park.

Good info mario, but not being funny it would be such an effort chasing the mayor of duma for a 'special permission' to visit his private tropical park.I'd rather hike past forest camp following the river to casaroro or past casaroro and above in random direction or follow the other ravine in bacong leading to foot hills of talinis ,or over the other side of the mountain would still give one the feel of a tropical rain forest.

I wonder if the mayor welcomes brown poor locals chasing for his permission to allow visits in his park.

Don't get me wrong ,but personally that will be the last thing i'll do,to see the mayor only if I am too desparate .I'm sure a tropical rain forest park somewhere above Valencia must be interesting, (as long as it wont get eventually filled up with concrete as part of the landscape) .
