    Choose Globe Broardband

If you have not yet found a house or flat in Dumaguete, I suggest you ask at Globe Broardband (in the boulevard) if they have service in the area, before you sign a rental contract.

This is the only wired broardband provider in Dumaguete, and it is also IMO the best. If you are already stuck in a place outside their area of coverage, then welcome in the club.

Your only two options are then Smart Wireless or IT Outlook, and experiences with these two are... mixed. At the moment IT Outlook is working quite ok though. You will be able to carry out a normal conversation via your VoIP box most of the time. But not 100% of the time. As for streaming TV, it is probably best to just forget it while living in Dumaguete.

Electricity is also a huge problem in Dumaguete. Expect about one brown-out pr. week on average. Always keep a torch and some candles at hand should it happen in the evening (which it very often does).

if you're within the city proper, bayantel would be the best. globelines comes next. i wouldn't know about smart but IT Outlook has a couple of horror stories.

Could you tell me where the bayantel office is located?
I would like to know if they service in Bagacay.

Bayantel is along Perdices Street. It's on the same block as Scoobys Silliman and OK Photo Supply. It's beside that small shoe store, forgot the name. But they are on the 2nd floor of the RCPI/Western Union Office.

We're using their cable TV service but as far as their internet service goes, they haven't bothered marketing it to us yet.

    Thx for the info spectre.
Looks like I am stuck with globe.
It amazes me how one of the biggest telcom players in the phils can sustain such a crappy service + product over an extended period...

    Internet Service

My gf had a contract with Smart-Bro already. The connection was terrrible (we were in Boloc-Boloc). We moved into Dumaguete proper and when I arranged the transfer to our new location I asked if I could pay a penalty to simply have the contract canceled. Yes, I was told that the penalty would be the monthly fee times the number of months remaining in the contract, lol . wow, what a bargain. Anyway I decided that since I have to pay the whole contract I might as well get the service. Bottom line... the connection is very good here :D (I am by Bantayan Beach). In fact, my Vonage phone works perfect... I can call the States and can receive calls with crystal clear reception. The only problem is that the calls are so clear that my friends doubt that I am actually out of the country:p. However, it's not quite fast enough to reliably watch streaming video without occasional stalls.
