Oh and one more thing. People come to the US all the time and have a kid (anchor baby), we have a kid who was born in the Philippines, and only has a Filipino citizenship. Can he be my anchor baby? Lol
I guess I was confusing your case with another. If your wife has an old Filipino passport, that is all she should need to prove she was Filipino! Yes, that being the case she is definitely eligible for dual citizenship. If you have a BC and/or her old Filipino passport, yes, she and you are eligible to enter under the balikbayan program. Larry
No no, that is the documentation we need from my wife's mother. My wife has bever had a Filipino citizenship or passport. My faultfor making this more complicated than it is. My understanding: if her mom was a Filipino citizen at the time of my wife's birth we are good to go. If she was a US citizen at the time of her birth we are SOL. And what about that anchor baby business? Is that only a US thing? Lol i'm willing leave my morals at the door with this thing. Ha. (I have no expectations an anchor baby will help out in the Philippines lol)
Ok, correct! I thought I was confused, but I was confused! It may still be possible to get for her, what does it say on HER bc as the citizenship of the Mother? Larry
Citizenship of Mother, Filipino. I can't understand why these people need anything more than this information.
I will he there late June. The wife is in Valencia now. I really appreciate all your advice so far. Very helpful.
Just an update. I went to the Philippine Bureau of Immigration, NOT a private company, in Cebu yesterday with the wife. Extended her visa to the end of this month and then got her an exit visa. Got all the documentation needed for the citizenship, immigration said it will be no problem to get the citizenship. Said it would be best to wait until she returns from the US to run the citizenship paperwork. Too easy. BTW, in Dumaguete now.
Great news. If you will be near a Philippine consulate in the US, it is much easier to obtain there than in the Philippines. Cost in US is $50, and if you are there in the morning, you leave that afternoon with her dual citizenship done. If you do it here in the Philippines, expect more cost (I believe around P10,000?) and much more hassle in the form of multiple trips to Cebu. Larry
My asawa did her dual citizen think at a Consulate Outreach. We still had to drive several hundred miles but it was half the distance to the Consulate. It was all done in one day although there was much confusion among the staff about what was needed to get the PI passports for the kids. In fact there was a lot of misinformation floating around the room about just about every thing they were doing. I guess some things are consistent about dealing with the Philippine bureaucracy all over the world. :-)
