Hey, how old is your son? I was thinking of SIlliman for my son as well. My son is 13. Do you know if there are any american boys his age in Silliman?

 

Siliman

My son is 14 and they would be in the same grade - First Year High School. I checked around with all the schools here and Siliman came out tops. St Paul is too religious and Don Bosco is too disorderly. I spoke to kids attending the various schools and the ones from Siliman seemed the most enthusiastic. The only part I eally don't care for with any of these is the religious aspects. That should be done at home. I also find Tagalog a complete waste. Finally the PE is a joke so any excersise must also be done at home on weekends. However that leaves Match, Science, Englih and History. My understanding is when a child graduates Siliman high school and then attends a college/university in the states they tend to be in the top percentile of the class. Despite Silimans excellent rep, I still intend to send Joe for normal grade (private boarding) high school in the states 9,10,11,12 (3rd year equiv here) . The tuition for Siliman HS is 30,000 peso per year.

Can you tell me why its better that there are no Americans in the class? Also, are there anyother westerners in your sons class?

I just talked to the phils embassy, they tell me its illegal for my son to attend school in the phils. That only higher education is allowed for non phils citizen.

I don't know if there are or not any Americans in Joe's class. The notion of a child not being able to attend school here at any grade level seems ridiculous. Maybe for the public schools but I can't forsee this with a private school like Silliman. You must have his transcripts of course. Are you coming here just the two of you. Work, Pleasure, retirement. I suggest you ask more questions of the consulate. I will also ask but I need more information from you about your status here

 

We were planning on staying for 90 days. The purpose of the trip was for my son to attend school. For Us to get to know the town. If we both liked it we planned to stay. If not we look for someplace else..

 

We already have his rep[ort card and his transcripts.
