One thing's sure: they are working on it. I am excited as you are and would like the mall to be finished as soon as possible. But as it is now I am not really sure if the mall's construction is slow or fast.

Buddy of mine here in Queensland, Australia, is a shopfitter who specialises in nice interiors for shops in Malls. He informs me that shopping malls need to have reasonably strong exterior walls and roofs, but the stuff you usually see inside is pure Movie Set construction. In the case of multi storey malls there are a few 'strong points' where the escalators need to hang but the rest is quite flimsy. It is a 'given' that most businesses there will need to completely refit their store every few years to keep them fresh so most of the actual shop structures are just ticky-tack.

There isn't much underground, the cables and even water pipes usually run behind walls and the only real underground work is the sewage lines from the public toilets and the shops in the food court.

Nowadays most of the concrete structure is made from walls cast on site and hoisted into position (I don't know if this is common in RP)

So given the flimsy nature of most malls, 2009 could well be feasible.

Hey Jimeve, you're almost as pessimistic as I am. We should meet one day and cry over a pint of warm beer by the Boulevard. :D
