Oh wow, Convergys in Dumaguete? That'd be great! Not that Teletec is bad but.... it's not great. Plus it means more job opportunities for the fresh graduates looking for jobs!

Elections are coming up soon, maybe the new officials will do a better job.

That means they may have to have a bigger area than what was previously thought? Hey, what would they do with that 6 hectare area if they will only have a 1.9 hectare area building? Will the Robinsons Place Dumaguete be all parking area? Any info on what shops will be there?

    BPO companies preferred

People would always say: Sillimanians and people from Dumaguete to work in callcenters? Well, we are not saying that callcenters are bad (Convergys for that matter), and it is proven that Sillimanians are some of the best callcenter agents there are. In fact, in the whole Philippines, Silliman is one of the top providers of human resources to the callcenter industry.

But a BPO business such as publishing, editing or accounting uses more knowledge and skills than just talking to a customer, so it is more preferred than a callcenter as of this time.

Plenty. There are pension houses near the downtown area, the boulevard, as well as near the airport. Check Inn Pension Plaza is the newest in town located at the downtown area just across McDonalds and adjacent to Lee Plaza. It is also one of the cheapest. Well, Negros Lodge is probably the cheapest at 150 pesos per day for a decent enough room with fan. It is located right across the under construction Robinsons Place Dumaguete and near the Ceres terminal in Calindagan.

I don’t mind Dgte having few malls , as long I am not living next to them, they are all fine. I think the idea of few more malls around Dgte is excellent and indeed a positive sign for this tiny city ,that is adding more alternative choices to people . I like good cinemas , so having few good ones added isn’t a bad idea at all.Better improve grocery shops to compete with one in lee plaza , sounds good. Perhaps when there’s an air of competition, hopefully the least one will start improving its service .

If I have my way, Dumaguete will have only 3 malls within fifteen years - aside from Robinsons, SM and, well, what's your guess is on my mind? And they could only expand and renovate. Population within the city and neighboring areas (Metro Dumaguete) should not be more than 250,000 within that period.

One forecast for the Philippines stated that by 30 years time (I must be retired and hopefully still alive) the population will reach estimated 140 million, could you imagine that?
But no fear,if economic situation improves over the years these 140 million people are assets to the country, hopefully a well educated and skilled workforce . But if the Philippines is continuously on her path downhill, it must be worrying . With many desparate poor people also struggling to survive ,then what can you expect but more criminalities happening around. But lets only hope and be optimistic things will get better for the Philippines as she moves on.

With regards to this 250,000 people to live in Dumaguete, that is possible in 30 -45 years time and if there are more jobs around many will move in .With the current trend we can only but hope the government and city planning officials will take their jobs so seriously in organizing the city and to put things right alongside further developments ,not leaving building and infrastructures into complete chaotic sprawl like what is happening in other cities in the
Philippines. And yeah, 3 big malls are enough for this city.

Dumaguete and its environs (including Valencia, Sibulan and Bacong) already has about 190,000 people as of this time. That means a growth of only 60,000 more. With the rapid growth of Dumaguete nowadays brought about by the influx of people from other places and abroad, especially artists, expats and professionals, this is only a small number to reach within that span of time. Hopefully, more educated people will be attracted to settle in Dumaguete with its good and improving environment, and excellent facilities and amenities.
