    Sorry guys, wrong formula.

    L + W + H = 132 X 5 = $660

    A buddy of mine regularly ships oddsized stuff over from the east coast through these guys;

CM Global Fwd LLC - Balikbayan Boxes - Door-to-Door Service to the Philippines, freight forwarding

The cost through them is $20 per cubic foot. However he has to pay customs charges too, where I didn't with Forex.

    Hope this helps somebody.

Actually the shipping agent pays them through the box fees which is why once in awhile the broker screws up by not paying them and your stuff gets help up at customs. I have had that happen and its very hard to get your boxes because customs will want the fees for the whole shipment, not just your box.

I think he meant L+H+W not LxHxW.

Our Balikbayan service is using star cargo. The standard box is 66 inches H+L+W and cost $105.00 they charge $5 per inch for whatever is over the 66 inches when the box is over sized.

I am debating now whether to send my controller which costs about $500 new here in states but is several years old. The shipping cost will be about $250.

RP customs seizes thousands of Balikbayan Boxes

    Fil-Am Customers Angry
By Henni Espinosa, ABS-CBN North America Bureau
    .
Milpitas, CA – Thousands of Filipinos across America who sent balikbayan boxes home to the Philippines through Bay Area-based cargo company, Associated Consolidators Express (ACE) are angry. They hoped their boxes would get to loved ones in the Philippines in a month’s time.

Jeanette Mauricio sent 3 boxes in January and February. The boxes contained medicine for her 70-year old father in Zambales. “Pinaghirapan ko ‘yon. Sinakripisyo ko. Pero wala namang nangyari sa pinagpadala ko,” (That’s what’s stressing me now. I worked hard for that. But nothing happened to my hard work.) she said.

ACE Cargo officials in its headquarters in Hayward, California says about 11,000 boxes from California, Nevada and Washington have been put on hold by the Philippine Bureau of Customs since January.

Cheryl Garcia, business development officer for ACE cargo says one of their brokers in Manila tried to save money on taxes by wrongly declaring the contents of some boxes as electronics instead of personal effects and household items which are taxed at a higher rate.

“In layman’s terms, para kaming smugglers,” (We seemed like we were smugglers.) explained Garcia.

ACE has already assembled a team of lawyers to have the boxes released and delivered to their intended recipients, before they put up for auction by customs officials.

As of this writing, seven of the 27 container vans containing the balikbayan boxes have already been released.

Another broker screw up, which is usually the case when a balikbayan shipment goes wrong.
