I have lived here for the past two years, and I am looking for somewhere nice to stay for a week in Dumaguete to just GET AWAY, clear our heads and recharge, we just need some space to get away for a little while...

I have looked online and many places seem to cater for Divers/Snorkelers and I hate going in the water, but my Wife and daughter would love it if there was a POOL where they could go swimming, I have been reading/researching most of the morning and reviews vary (doing my head in!) and most comments are leaning towards people coming here for overnight stays to go to other islands to go diving etc.

So I am asking LOCALS who live here in Dumaguete; where do you go LOCALLY to unwind and recharge to just have some time to yourself for a while?

For me; I am happy if it has Pay TV. That is it I am happy! NO traveling, no massages, no diving, no being pampered! I am NOT a 'tourist kind of guy'...
But I would like to stay somewhere for maybe a week with my Wife and daughter (9YO) where we can preferably eat in and not have to go out to eat 3 times a day, somewhere clean and nice, friendly, QUIET and not all about doing the 'Tourist thing". We just NEED to go somewhere close and local where we can spend a week away from 'life in general here'...

:sorry: I fly to Cebu because I am terrified to go on the water in Boats/Ferries Jack, nearly drowned so many times in the past when I ventured into water with my family who were like ducks to water! I swim like a rock! So I swore to stay out of it for life... You have no idea of the phobia I have of water as well as suffering from severe motion sickness. (I cannot even go on a park swing even as a child without throwing up)

Thank you for your suggestion though, but I would like to keep my feet firmly planted on Mother Earth.

Thank you Lorraine, if others also make suggestions, we will go in and check them out before we make a booking, that way we can make a better informed decision instead of making a blind booking.

You may want Florentina Homes. Why? Because its close to downtown to walk in 20 minutes but far enough away to be less noisy and polluted. Its close enough to the beach to walk there in 5 or 10 minutes but not right on the beach. It has Gabby's restaurant right downstairs with food for foreigners and filipinas and kids. It has a pool its a 5 minute walk from the Ang Tay golf course. and tricycles go by there every few minutes if you don't like to walk.

I should keep it a secret.... but the top-rated Philippine holiday accommodation is right here near Dumaguete City... it is called 'The Wilson's Shangri-La' ... the owners and staff are ACE+, the service is ACE+, the food is ACE+, the peace is ACE+ .... what other places get 9.9/10 on Booking.com? There is no pool but it is on the beach (a bit stony but with the right gear it should be fine, I assume). Go via Booking.com or phone them on 0915-823-4382 (I am not related to them or benefit from this recommendation in any way; I just think quality should be rewarded by telling others) . Even if you stay only one night you will not regret it.

I concur with the Florentina Homes suggestion. It is affordable, has a pool and nice restaurant. It is far from the hustle and bustle of downtown which is a plus.
