 Well, we still have no internet, we are at an internet cafe catching up on our emails, etc.. Filproducts came out right away and connected our cable, KUDOs to them!! All of our neighbors have Globe for internet and landlines, however, Globe tells us there are no lines available for us. Am I to understand that the lines that are there are already at capacity and they will have to bring in more lines? Not sure how to interpret it or if they plan on doing anything about getting us service. I honestly don't think a surveyor ever came like they said....we didn't see one anyway. We are going to pay Globe another visit tomorrow and request a new survey of our neighborhood. Our daughter is enrolled in Silliman University Elementary....spent ALL day today trying to work through the highly disorganized mess of what they call enrollment, and we still aren't done!! They could definitely streamline their process and make it much easier on everyone. It is almost as if they have never enrolled students before!! Oh well, we will get through it, and I am so grateful our daughter will be attending classes when school starts!! Our household items and car made it, so we are getting along better than when we first got here, although we are still sleeping on air mattresses, because I don't want to assemble beds, only to have to dismantle and reassemble them when we move across the street. The house project is coming along, and I am very glad we are across the street overseeing things, can't imagine not being there to watch it. We have had to go behind them and have them redo some things, remove some things.....oh, and let me tell you, they will lay your tile first before they finish the ceilings and walls, and they will drag their homemade wooden contraptions and spill paint, cement, and stain on your new tiles unless you do what we did and insist they do the tiles LAST. I was able to see what they did to the floor in another house next to ours and we were able to prevent that from happening at our house. If anyone is in the need of a good American quality carpenter, I have a name for you, just send me an email. He is very knowledgable in all of the construction process, as he was a contractor in the states. Hopefully I can get pics of what he is doing for me so you can see his work....right now he is just beginning to build the kitchen cabinets and will be storing them at my townhouse until it is time to move them to the house.

Read up on this man's "learning curve" of his ongoing house construction in Iloilo. Pics included!

Yes, getting things done in an orderly fashion is so much easier here due to the much higher level of education here than in the US!

What? Did I say something rhood or funny?

Just hang your pants up to dry, no need to wash. You'll fit right in downtown where every wall has been whitewashed a million times by the highly educated!

    Updates....

    Hi all,
Just wanted to let you know that things are finally coming together!! Daughter is enrolled at Silliman, we have cable and internet. Our house is coming along, albeit slowly, but very glad we are right across the street to keep an eye on things. I have started to drive a little, gotta get some independence!! Ready for this heat to subside, though, and I thought it was hot in Manila!!

    RE: Carpenters

Look at the bright side of things, the wage a carpenter earns here for a whole days work is not even equal to an hours rate for a carpenter in the US.When I was in Jersey the going rate was about 25 dollars an hour

No excuse for sloppy work of course. You just have to direct them . The locals have no idea of the standards you are used to in the US.

Not to put a damper on things, but in provincial Thailand the carpenters do the same job for about 1/3 the cost as in Dmgte...maybe it is due to fewer Tanduay and cigarette breaks...either way, reality is reality! ;-)
