d*mn,only 80 policemen to a population of over a hundred thousand , unbelievable! Dreadful it is , it speaks of the state of this city . I even read from somewhere that during daytime peak hours , people in dumaguete will reach up to over 400,000 that includes the transients consisting of visitors, workers ,students from other towns outside Dumaguete. What does the local government think about it .Are they day dreaming? No wonder you go around Dumaguete, you hardly spot any police officer. True ,what can we expect from a town with just a handful of police officers to over 100,000 people ,with criminal elements running loose .It's really disappointing to have officials in the local government and law enforcers who seem to be in deep slumber ,ignoring the surge of crime activities in their area of responsibility.Incidents of murder, getting robbed, pick pocketed ,snatching and what have you, nothing done ,they hardly catch those thugs and lock them up.Those incidents didn't happen as odd one off ,they were repeatedly done over a longer period of time, and no major actions ,plans for crime prevention /intervention you hear from them .A major issue they can't be bothered looking into .Now there's an article in the Negros Chronicle of Mr Carlos (chief police )saying about forming a quick response police unit and all blah blah, I'm not impressed ,to see is to believe ...not until we see it working .

Just an opinion ,can't dare to live in a subdivision, with roving security ?High walls sounds like in prison. Where most of the view are of other people's lovely houses and roofs , nice paradise indeed, sorry not my taste . Bacolod has equivalent of worrying crimes too,no perfect crimesless place these days, just google of the news ,scary . The safest perhaps is some beautiful uninhabited islands in the Bacuit peninsula , unless get run by pirates.:p

Actually....my post should be slightly updated/revised. We did seriously look at the Ayala development...this was after our cousin realtor told us there was a better, and much cheaper development across the street...got a bit of a runaround from Ayala - and then had a look at what our cousin was advising. She was right LOL...much better amenities...great security (families like the Lacson's live there) and the price was about half of what Ayala wanted. We bought several lots there and combined them to form a decent size living area. It is really superb there...Not saying Ayala North Point isn't, it is beautiful too...but for the money we are very happy...lot of expats in the area are too. Our neighbours (when we actually build) are from California, Florida, and Belgium.

Crime in Bacolod...not really sure it is comparable to Dumaguete...maybe general crime yes...but against Westerners, almost unheard of. So unheard of...I haven't heard of anything serious. Do get the odd Indian loanshark getting mugged etc...and a couple westerners have been doing the hanky-panky with those who wanted to profit from it...but home break-ins, or robberies on the street against Westerners..frankly I don't know of any in recent times. Probably two reasons for it...less Westerners, and many of those that are in Bacolod do live in those subdivisions. But yes, there is crime everywhere...probably as bad here in Perth as Bacolod...if not worse...We do have some bias towards gated subdivisons anyway, having spent a decade living within, and outside of them, in the Middle East. Within was much much better! Anyway, to each their own...I wouldn't mind a nice beachside home somewhere myself....but have to prioritize...

Crime incidence could be put to a minimum if there is serious crime prevention scheme in the area .Dumaguete is smaller than Bacolod, but with the incidents around this tiny city looks bad .But can we blame it when unbelievably even the Police chief of this city makes truce with GANGS OF DUMAGUETE? Is this the kind of order promoting machinery we have in Dgte who can't think lot better than making peace truce with the unruly? let alone to catch thieves and criminals ? It's a blooming joke !!!!

    Re Unplesant Element In Dmgt

hi all well i certainly seem to have stired up a hornets nest re crime ect i was wondering why there was so much property for sale in dmgt obviously this is the reason, it's like the uk everyone leaving because of the crime rate ldecent people just don't need it, so it is bacolod for me palmas del mar or pacific shores as you say i thaught ayala was a bit on the exspensive side would be interested to here of more locations to consider derek

everyone leaving the UK not because mainly of crime unless living like in bradford or glasgow or east london, basildon of essex ,lols but coz of unbelievable sky high house prices which many youngsters can't afford ,and mostly because of the weather that sucks .

Dunno why more properties for sale in dgte than bacolod ,perhaps more are buying , it's getting popular and less boring in comparison and more for the market ,my guess.

Absolutely. I live in Casa Alicia, Candau-ay, and can help you out. Go to the gatehouse and ask for the crazy Australian with the black roof house
