Hello PhilT...I didn't have any problems with security at South Seas. In fact, Marilyn and I walked the grounds at night numerous times, even areas not so well-lit. I'm trying to think if we also walked that zig-zag route from the hotel to the closest main road at night as well. We did take pedi-cabs back to South Seas at night, as well as Marilyn's motorcycle. I remember seeing a few guards walking the premises, and never once felt like the place was unsafe. I think it's all relative, though.

As for the merchants hanging out by the waterfront, I saw them too. They weren't terribly pushy...at least not compared with those I saw at the port in Cebu. I figured the hotel let them stay there, so long as they weren't too pushy. I remember seeing a house adjacent to the open-air cafe (the cafe at the north end of South Seas, not the one by the pool). I wonder if the merchants lived there. The house was literally 20 feet from where we sat down for meals and we could see people swimming and hanging up laundry and such.

I stayed at South Seas for almost three weeks and wasn't worried about the security there at all. The staff there was absolutly great. We had our wedding there and everything went very well. I will be staying there again next month for a bit. I have three weeks vacation but I think we'll spend most of it in Iloilo before going to Dumaguete. Can't wait!!

We stayed at South Seas Hotel last year and it was a pleasant stay. The room was spacious and clean. The food was great especially our breakfast of sumptous suman and creamy and sweet mangoes. yummmy. You really need to have your own vehicle if you're planning to stay there as it's a lil far from the city itself.

OK Kuya and others here, if you say its okay for security, as I have not stayed there I will take it from you that its okay. Also yes you need the transport, it is a little way out, but hey thats a good thing...why? its stops your in laws from turning up there every morning!!!

seriously, I would never walk around there at night, or if you are on a motorbike etc take something to protect yourself. That Piapi to Airport road is very busy and full of people these days! the city is expanding so you need to take your "City" head with you further out! If you think i am over the top then its okay, as being a Cornishman we are born like it and grow up with the pessimistic side of life, we always see the black side first!! lol! then after we have "vetted" it, then you see the brighter side of us. Its called the Celtic disease Scotsman are much the same and the Welsh, and Breton's too!! not too sure on Irish! its not a bad trait these days.

A guy who helped me get to the phils the very first time I travelled there, on my own, he prepared me for the moment I left Manila airport and ventured outside he ask me what would I do if approached by someone, I told him I would tell them to "P*** off!" he said I should be fine and thought I could look after myself.....LOL! As it happened I met my future wife at the Airport and we have been together ever since....shucks.. I am just a big softy really!!! Hey even Marcos left the country when he heard I was coming!! lol! (I arrived there December 87)

I was actually approached by someone outside of the Manila airport. It was obvious I was a lost foreigner, as I wasn't sure where the Cebu Pacific shuttle bus was located.

Well, as it turns out, the guy had an airport ID and simply asked me if I needed help...and then directed me to the proper bus

You must have the looks that draws amount of trust Kuya.If that happens to a Filipino,he’s probably left confined in South Sea's til he extracted his every penny to pay the bill.If still with no money, perhaps they'll get him to wash the dishes and clean hotel rooms for a year. lols:D

    Ha ha...maybe so...

Keep in mind that trip was my first time seeing Marilyn, and I trusted her enough to deliver an amount equivalent to 6 months of her income. She easily could have kept it and never said a word to me again...but I knew that wouldn't happen.

So, the trust went more ways than one

    Hello Lynn,

there are plenty of options to go from Cebu to Duma, just read through the thread from the start, Weesam Express, Ocean Jet, super ferry or even by bus Ceres liner, no problem...
