Think about it, you are in a third world country. There are people here going hungry and trying to survive. We Americans take a lot of basic things for granted. A public restroom cost money to maintain such as toilet paper, soap, and papers towels and to clean the CR. Filipinos consider this a waste of money to maintain a public restroom. Think about it, Average American spends about three hundred dollars a year on toilet paper. It's a bad feeling when you have an emergency and the only paper you can find is the pesos in your wallet. I draw the line when I have to use a 500 peso note or higher. HA ! HA ! HA ! It's a sad feeling when you go outside and have to worry about doing your business. All I can say on this subject is, try to use your cr before you leave your residence and always remember which are the good public restrooms if you can find one, Carry some emergency tissue and pray.

When I was traveling extensively I always carried a folded wad of toilet paper in my back pocket. Even better if I could get them a bunch of the individuall wrapped moist hand towels. I don't know as I have ever used the facilities at the local McDs but world wide they usually mean a clean toilet and conventional plumbing.

    Hospital

Have to mention this........a couple of months ago, while we were at Paranaque Doctor's Hospital here in Manila, (it was one of our almost weekly trips to my husband's pulmonologist) it ends up being an all day ordeal and when you gotta go, you gotta go. Anyway, as has always been the case at this hospital, the floor is nasty wet, no toilet paper, no soap, no hand sanitizer in the restroom and the sanitizer dispenser outside the restroom in empty. I am sorry....I HAVE SERIOUS PROBLEMS with a hospital facility being this dirty and neglected!!! Do you seriously want your nurse or doctor to use this restroom and then come touch you or your loved one (do a "sterile" IV stick, prepare food, examine you), without being able to wash their hands or use sanitizer??!! This restroom is one of the dirtiest I have ever seen in my entire life and it is in a hospital, of all places!!! So, I leave a nice little note on their "daily checklist" that is hanging on the door. Needless to say, the next time we are at the hospital, that "daily checklist" paper is gone, but there are two bars of soap AND hand sanitizer in the restroom as well as sanitizer in the dispenser outside!! Hehehe, well, maybe I made a difference..........

Congratulations for that! But you still do have a lot to learn being in the PI. Hospital personnels/staffs never share their toilets with visitors and patients.
So they have their 'own' toilet and maybe more complete and 'cleaner' than to where you have been to (in that clinic/hospital).

Then, I guess it is like the U.S. We always had our own "employee" restrooms, too...however, I have seen some of the staff at this hospital coming out of these restrooms on occasion, perhaps out of necessity....anyway, I just assumed they had to share them with the guests, like the employees at the malls do. Thanks for the heads up, though, that is good know, that perhaps they have proper hand-washing item available to them.

Does anyone else remember flying into the old domestic airport in Manila. The very busy men's room as you were exiting after baggage claim had urinals without plumbing. Instead there was about a 20 gal. plastic drum under each urinal. On a busy day you'd need gum boots. I don't have any idea what they did with all that urine but I didn't envy the guy who's job it was to clean up.
