I met several of the sailors at the Why Not, they were having lunch. The ship was seeking safe harbor from the approaching typhoons. One told me a pedi cab driver charged him 300 pesos from the port entrance to why not Their beer of choice was Cervasa Negra.

When a ship is at a port the government officials are asked if there are any civic projects some of the sailors can assist. Some choose to go shopping, drinking, touring, while others help with civic projects.

I have work at several US Embassies and supported ship visits. The ship port called to Dumaguete was not assisiting any oil exploration.

I am upset at the worlds view of the USA. We are a very generous population and we give of ourselves. We are taken advantage of. George Bush is from my home state and we in Texas are good people. We have families and Moms and Dads that have raised us right and we have family values and good morales. We are honest and God fearing people. We have homes and have jobs and do our daily lives just like the rest of you.
We only want the best for the rest of the world. After all ,we took out an evil dictator in Iraq that gassed his own people, Thosands of them, and tortured his own people and invaded another country ,being Kuwait, and reaked havoc on them and stole everything they had. Anybody remember this???
we pushed him out of Kuwait, but did NOT go to Baghdad on that mission.
Saddam violated ALL of the UN sanctions against him and he did have weapons of mass destruction! He used them on his own people!!
So NO more American bashing!! I am tired of this stuff!!
    TEXAS

Well Texas, nice to know that you have such an open mind. what my personal views and opinions are, are well, personal. I have not attacked you, George Bush, or the American way of life. You my friend brought all those subjects to bear. I don't ask you to think just like me. I have a healthy skepticism of The U.S. and its geopolitical motives, That my friend is healthy and appropriate. If you can not tolerate critical thinking, or other opinions on a public forum, you are free to leave, or block my posts. I for one enjoy a healthy debate and disscussion. Read my posts very carefully. your putting words in my mouth.

This forum is, you should remember, located in the Philppines, not the U.S. There are people who may agree with you, some may not, and some are quietly laughing. At both of us probably. Yeah I can laugh at myself, You?

You ask my nationality, why? So you can attack me on the basis of my nationality? My race? Is it important to know that so you might some how pigeon hole me?

I won't engage you on these issues here as this is a pretty much friendly forum, with info for anyone looking to settle here in Dumaguete. Out of respect for the people here, and the forum staff, I won't fight you back with the words that perhaps would turn this thread into a flame war.

You have deflected the intent of this thread with your critisisms and rather uninsightful musings.

I was really looking for simple truthful answers to the questions raised by the visit of the Navy ship. I am not spouting theories, political dogma. I am just reporting what I have read in the local papers, and heard from on the street. And asking people if they care, to wake up and take note, investigate and find the truth. It is not my theory. I am asking pointed questions. If you don't like the drift don't read it, simple. It, I feel is important for folks looking to settle here that there are important issues at hand that may affect the quality of life here. I live here now for a couple years, I care what happens, and take an interest when I hear comments made by Navy personel about helping with the oil exploration in the Tanon Straight. I saw the gear mentioned before.

So as you sit there in Texas, what right do you have sir to tell me what to say, question, or debate?

Thanks, and good night. God bless.

Actually even though your comment is sarcastic there jim, I'll answer. The Navy personel were the first ones to tell a friend of mine about the towing of the oil rig coming in a few days. This was last week. They did not say that they were towing it. Good bad or indifferent there seems to be somthing to this. I don't claim to know why or in what way, but I am curious.
