He's right...if you don't have high-level connections in Customs, you would be crazy to try to bring a car here. Officially the import duty begins at 100% of the value as determined by Philippine Customs. You are completely at their mercy...

Due to the elections a lot of cars are being let in by corrupt customs officials who are collecting bribes...the good news for you if you are unconnected is it appears to have brought second-hand car prices down.

A brand new Toyota Vios cost around 630.000 pesos.
It has a 1300 cc gasoline motor very fuel efficient but "made in the Philippines"
3 years tax and 1 year full omnium insurance included, at least in Cebu, i don't know conditions in Dumaguete.

    Hi Kewl,

It is a 2001 Adventure automatic. It was traded in by a local owner. We paid 460k for it. We checked Kia too, but they are expensive. Reason is it is brought in assembled from Korea so in import duties are very high.

Only Mitsubishi has a full service center in Dumaguete, If you have a Toyota or a Honda, you either have to bring your car to Cebu or Bacolod.

There should be more second had cars available,I notice a lot of brand new cars around. The reason being the sugar prices are up so ,lot of sugar planters made good money. They have replaced their cars. This happens to be the culture in this region. Just my two cents worth.

The Mitsubishi Adventure available in the PI market new is in your price range (800,00p)and has models that seat 6. As another poster mentioned earlier they have a distributor and service center in Dumaguete. They have the L300 line also if you are looking for something that might blend in more.
