Wow, the thief must be starving to steal "Jollibee", how I wish I could have a 3 hours old yum with cheese now...:o

But back to the topic, with the increasing popularity of citys, the criminal rate will also increase. That is anywhere in the world like that. Maybe our City-government will take the appropriat steps in time, and not focusing on "Traffic violation tickets -"foreigners only"...

    cheers

There should be a warning poster in the street where there are rampant crime like stealing and breaking windows of cars, like in London " Thieves and pickpocketeers work here."

    hahaha!

that's what they seem to be focusing on nowadays. minor infractions that don't really have a huge impact on the people. makes you wonder if they have the guts to deal with badass lawless elements. they seem to be going after the small fish. probably afraid the big fish would bite back.

What do you do if the city of gentle people is invaded with hoodlums from other cities? Dumaguete is a fast growing city. You have to be very careful and be wary of your surroundings. If you park your car, make sure that your valuables or things you purchase in department stores are not visible to the eyes of thieves. Not to mention countless people from different regions of the country have migrated to the city of gentle people. Can you see why people liked to move to Dumaguete? I can. And Dumaguete is still the city of gentle people.

Well, whether you are aware of it or not, the bloods and Crips are here in Dumaguete. Anyone from North America will know these gang names. If you read the papers you will know that they are feuding in the streets of Dumaguete. The local PNP, in there infinate wisdom have struck a truce with them rather than alleviate the problem before it takes a hold.

It is the larger problem, police take a backseat to confronting organized groups of criminals, choosing self preservation over actually doing the job. In addition corruption also plays a role in all of this.

Got them in a lot of places around PI. And the cops are universally unable to deal with them. Pathetic really....I hear some gang members have influential (read 'rich') families (probably the same in Dumaguete) and the cops take the usual path of least resistance. Not just a Filipino weakness...we got motorcycle gangs, Asian and Middle-east gangs too, down here that the police are terrified of dealing with. Same in the US and Europe, Japan, South America. Organized crime wins, police and judicial systems wimp out....

    JB,
I guess RHB can answer that better as he brought it in, but as for what I know they are a gang-kind of thing, even I don't think the gangs with that name here are related to the "original" ones.
I still think living here is safe, minor things are happening anywhere and each town in the world has streets where you just don't go.
SU Babe's experience is sad, but should make us more aware (if we are not already).
Still, Dumaguete is a great City to life.

    cheers

    Rhoody
