    Update
For those who might be interested in a water tank installation. I was able to get all the parts I needed, plus installation, at Citi Hardware for my water tank. Prices vary depending on what make and size of tank you want, from plastic to stainless, from 500 liter to 2,000. I hooked it off my back yard faucet, primarily as a backup water supply for the many times my water is shut off. ie, last night midnight to 7am. Seems to be working nicely.

What size tank did you end up getting? When you have no city water is water from the tank pumped back under pressure to your house or do you rely on gravity? Did you install a float so it fills automatically then shuts off automatically? Did you install a check valve so the water in your tank is not back feeding into the cities system and supplying your neighbors when the city water is off? Sorry for all the questions, but I may need to do a similar system soon!

Kdf, I installed a 1,000 liter stainless steel tank. I don't run it back into my house. I had a galvanized stand made for it and the tank has legs so it stands about a meter off the ground. I have a filter and a 1 hp motor to pump the water up into the tank. I put in a float valve for auto shutoff. I put a double valve on the faucet so I can turn off the water to the tank and also use the other outlet for a hose or whatever. Finally, I have a valve and extension for water coming out of the tank.
I figure the tank is equal to about 53 bottles of delivery water, so if the municipal water goes down for 5 days again, I should have an adequate backup. I put the tank under a canopy I had built to keep the motor dry from rain and the tank from getting too hot. The bulk of the cost was in the stainless steel tank.
