That is a personal decision, and there is no answer that fits everyone. Some people have plenty of time, and know there way around doing research and processing paperwork. Others do not.

I'm not sure which process you are referring to, the visa process or the process of re-acquiring dual citizenship. The process of re-acquiring dual citizenship is very easy, most anyone can deal with that.

The process of a K1 visa (or other family based visas) is usually not terribly difficult, but it can become confusing and one must keep in mind that things change all the time, and there are many variables. The process right now has quite a few changes from the way it was just 6 months ago.

One must weigh the cost of using an agent as opposed to doing it themselves. Most agents here locally and on the internet charge upwards of P40,000 to process a simple K1 visa, start to finish. This to me, is insane. They mislead, in that the will quote a price to file the visa, but what they don't tell you is that later they have another fee for preparing the paperwork for the interview, then another fee for phone calls, and yet another fee for "coaching". THEN, they have ANOTHER fee if you want them to help with the adjustment of status once in the US, and yet another if you want them to help process the green card, SS, etc... By the time they are done with different "fees", you will find that all added up they are charging P60,000+. NONE of this includes the fees you will pay to US Immigration, visa fees, medical exam, etc.

When we set up our business doing this, we did so with the intention of charging what the service was worth, rather than trying to get rich from each client. Our fee for a basic K1 or other family based petition is US $300. (roughly P13,000) That is from the start, filing the petition, all the way to adjustment of status and processing of the green card and SS card, and everything in between (does not include various fees paid to various government agents and for documents, etc). If we save you just one trip to Manila due to errors or incomplete paperwork, we have saved you more money than is our fee.

    Consultations are free.
