Thanks Pat! I am familiar with Casablanca, great restaurant. We looked at Atmosphere and it is is very nice but a little pricy. I did not like the rooms at Santa Monica but enjoyed their food very much. In all 14 people staying 8 days, so of course the budgeting is important. We have a couple options and one of them is renting a house. Thanks for you info!

That is quite a story, but I am almost sure there are like always 3 sides of the story.

I was working long enough here in Resorts and of course it is business.
Having said that, I could very well imagine that the local manager involves new rules WITHOUT telling the owner about it. I saw that many times in all departments of resorts, specially with a local (new) manager.

NO, this should not excuse that ridiculous policy at all.

One thing I definitely disagree is the water for waitress and workers.

They get exactly the same free water they have at home or in school and when they go out. You will hardly see anybody of the local staff drinking purified water, they simple open the faucet and I am sure they do not need to pay for that in El Dorado.

From a business point of view, if one of my staff would say that water-lie to a customer or use words like the manager that you can hear it, her/his way out would be pretty fast.

As a guest, we vote with our feet...

Just an idea'''' Order an ice tea without the tea? I wonder what the response would be? Probably extra for the ice.

The manager of El Dorado is a Filippina lady,(the first wife of Marcus, the owner of Why Not)
I'm sure this is not her style, but the last few times i went to eat in El Dorado, prices where up substantialy, that's a fact.

I originally asked for the owner but was told he was unavailable. The waitress brought over the manager and that's the one that re-confirmed the water policy after the waitress had told us.

This whole thing is a shame really as I enjoy dropping in there for afternoon food and snacks. Luckily, many other choices.

Now my buddy has 5 more nights staying there and he's not the most comfortable either. Sadly, I referred him there. He was due to meet another couple for dinner tonight and was going to invite them to ElDorado. I know that won't happen as it would be pretty embarassing to invite dinner guests to dinner and limit their water intake if they're water drinkers.

Sounds like the owner needs to reload and shoot himself in the other foot! It is amazing the "business" people who are so cheap as to save a centavo and miss out on all the pesos!

I;ve stayed there many times and find the resort most relaxing, lovely gardens and all things done with obvious good taste and thought. The owners are nice people but busy keeping all the balls of their businesses in the air, that's why they employ staff, who should have sufficient experience and judgement to avoid the situation as reported.

Sadly it appears that the situation was miss-managed. Good staff are hard to find, be it any location in the world, the restaurant in a resort is the location of eye to eye, hands on contact with owners, staff and deliverance of the ambience of the moment.

When the ultimatum is so final about not returning again, both parties have lost out. Eldorado restaurant has such a nice setting right on the beach, and that small arc of coastline is special, the diving out of this world. Perhaps a word in the ear of the owners would have avoided this "final solution" and the staff would have been firmly sorted, I am sure.

Dissapointing outcome for yourself and your guests.......

    Loss - Loss

DiverTim, I liked the way you put the scenario into proper perspective. As you alluded to, it was a loss - loss in what could have and should have been adjusted (somehow) to a win - win. I haven't stayed there but go there on some Sundays as a nice getaway brunch on the beach. Realizing this is not Hawaii where you have an overabundance of resorts, one has to weigh the plus and minus. I always use a price-performance measurement. If I have a special occasion we might go to Atmosphere for a weekend getaway, but if I was budget minded I would go to either Mike's Resort or El Dorado in a heartbeat. There may be other places I haven't hit on yet but hopefully El Dorado will get their s__t together.

    The world knows now

I stay on the highway above Mike's when in Dauin. It is my habit to take a daily walk to el dorado to sip on beverage, eat, and enjoy the view. You can be sure that your post will affect my relation with el dorado. I hail from Alaska and don't agree with treating tourists like dispensible cigarette butts. Thank you for the post.

Global warming may change things, but for now you can get all the free virgin water that has been frozen in glaciers for ages right here in Alaska. I don't think dinosaurs have ever urinated on our glaciers, nor do they contain recycled sewage like so many 'civilized world cities.'

If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand.
