You should definitely go to the Philippines! but of all many places which is better, why Subic?
i think that you should do more research about travel places in the Philippines.

If you are in to Casino's, you have it in Manila. You can stay in the city for 2 nights, you have so many go out places at night as well. On the other hand, beach should be separated from casino. Usually you will not find any close from the beach. Just have fun, make friends, and do some outdoor activities which i think is better than casino.

I just returned a week ago from a week vacation in Phuket Thailand. It was quite nice and a good change of pace. However much depends on what you specifically want in a vacation. Are you a resort type who wants to just chill at a resort? Do you want to go around to see many attractions and gorgeous places? Do you like dealing with tourist hotspots that may be crowded even when its off season? Do you want more of a local feel that isn't provided in a tourist hotspot? Do you want a large assortment of food foreign food choices or you want to eat like a real local? What is your budget like as in if a tourist hotspot is to expensive for your taste and a more local cheaper style feels more budget friendly.

I'd also of course suggest if your a food lover thinking on the local foods making sure if trying local food is your thing your going to someplace that actually has local food to your tastes. Phuket for instance the main thing is seafood wherever you go and other meet choices are limited. Philippines the choice is often bad food or not real Filipino foods (sorry but many Filipino's don't seem to have much for taste buds).

One of my favorite is George Town, Penang, Malaysia.
A good mixture of Europe, Malaysia, India and China. Excellent food and good beaches too.
Also Saigon Vietnam, district 1 is worth a visit and for beach lovers you can fly to Phu Quoc after some days.

It's also very easy to go a short distance North or South and avoid the crowds if that's what you want.

If you want the "nightlife", shopping, lots of traffic and crowded beaches, I agree.

Except that "tourist things" exist around us - we just always think that they must be somewhere else.
