Many guys stranding here in Dumaguete (nobody of the members should take this personal, just my observation) actually don't really know why they are here. One of the main-reasons is that they think life is cheap... After spending a while here they got bored. The reason for that is not Dumaguete, the reason is that they are unable to explore places. We are in the central PI, there are "only" some thousand interesting islands around, worth visiting. I know quite some Expats here who never been in Luzon, Mindanao, Palawan even Siquijor, but complaining that there is nothing to do here. I really feel kawawa for them. For those who need some help what to do just have a look on our DI-Travel-guide, where we introduce different Cities and regions outside the Visayas.you might get some ideas what to do... cheers Rhoody
Having only stayed in Dumaguete for short spells at the time, I'm perhaps not in the best position to comment, nevertheless, I would like to add my humble comments to this subject........ Happily married to a Pinay for 23 years, through thick and thin, I would not have it any other way....their love and loyalty is unmesaurable. Never had a problem in Dumaguete, just respect the local way of life. The only thing that sometimes gets to my nerves is the very slow pace but than I think of how much stress I've been put through back in UK....... If Pinoys were to treat us the way we westeners treat all foreigners back home, God save us, instead we are all treated with the upmost admiration..... Moneywise, well if one adapts himself to the local way of life instead of trying to live to impress, then that also should not be a problem....even if that means eating rice and fish most of the times, something which I enjoy anyway........ One negative aspect I can think of, and a major one, is the lack of a National Health Care to which us foregners can nevertheless remedy by means which are normally out of reach to the locals. Oh, one more thing......the weather and the local beauty spots, unbeatable!! I attach a pic to illustrate what I could see out of my window just moments earlier, and this is summer time........
Hey is that my house in the background....hehehe Yes Union Jack I for one know what you mean I think it must be the wet'est summer and certainly the coldest in the UK...I can remember As for living in PI the most time I spent there was 3 months but...... Go with the flow Don't rock the boat and if you ain't got anything nice to say (Keep your gob shut Larr's) hehehe regards ....JB
A reason to stay in Negros Here is a reason to stay in Negros, the kind of image that greets you in most mornings.
I wish the rest of the world would get some of this. I think what will drive me most crazy is that as a web worker the local pace will be slow but I will still have to move at the pace of the rest of the world. Similarly, in the U.S. we hear about how Europeans get lots of vacations and short work days. Not the Europeans I work with! :(
