Dumaguete City: Changes over the years

Dumaguete City of Negros Oriental is known to be the city of gentle people. Aside from this, Dumaguete is also known to be the best place to retire and relax at your old age. This place is also known to be the motorcycle city. Being a resident of Dumaguete for 22 years, I have seen how this City had boom over the years. As far as I can remember, at my childhood years, Dumaguete only has one mall. Lee Plaza at the downtown area was the most famous mall during that time. After how many years, another mall was established just across Lee Plaza. Cangs Incorporated was built up but it was not that big as Lee Plaza. As years go by, more establishments were made. Ever Mall was created just beside Cangs Incorporated. Then, Mart One was also made which is also across Lee Plaza facing the other direction. These establishments were just beside each other and from that point in time, the downtown area is already known for the malls circulating it. Aside from malls, fast food chains were  also made. One of which is the fast food chain of Jolibee. Then after how many years, Greenwich, Dunkin Doughnuts and Chowking has followed. Aside from this, a lot of restaurants were made. One very known restaurant which is still famous until now is Rosante. This restaurant was the first one to supply and served pizza in the City. After how many years, the name Rosante was changed into Don Robertos. But they still serve the same food. Other restaurants had followed. Board and Lodging also became famous in the City. The first big hotel was La Residencia Al Mar located at the Rizal Boulevard which is facing the sea. This hotel also has a restaurant which is named after the owner, Don Atilano. Other famous hotels were also made after how many years. Bethel Guest House is another famous hotel in the City. It also has a restaurant which is called Cafe Filomena. They serve the best halo-halo in town.

Many changes were made over the years. Some malls in the downtown area had relocate. While others had closed. This time, Cangs Incorporated had transfered in Barangay Daro. And it now bigger then the first one. Mart one has closed.  Chinese stores can also be found in the downtown area today. A new mall was created at 2010. Robinsons Mall was created. This is a branch from other Robinsons Place Mall in the country. The branch here in Dumaguete is actually the biggest Robinsons Mall compared to other branches in the Philippines. Beside the mall is Go hotels. A lot of new restaurants are made all over the City. As for the old mart one, it now has the Robinsons Supermarket grocery store. And for the old Cangs, it now has the 2nd branch of McDonald’s. The first branch is located near Quezon Park. You can also find a lot gasoline stations every Barangay. This city also has a lot  pharmacies and banks. As of today, Dumaguete has become a very busy city. You can find everything and get anything that you want here. From food, clothes, education, shelter and many more. And here is the best part, this City has less traffic compared to other places in the Philippines. Therefore you can really relax and unwind here. Less headaches and less stress.
