POPCOM Invites Communities and Partners to the Virtual Launch of the State of the World Population Report on July 10, 2020

The Commission on Population and Development in Central Visayas (POPCOM VII) led by the POPCOM Central Office in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) invites communities and partners to the launch of the State of the World Population Report via Facebook Live on July 10, 2020, Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 in the morning.  This is part of the celebration of the World Population Day with the theme: “Putting the Brakes on COVID-19: How to Safeguard the Health and Rights of Women and Girls Now.” The pre-recorded Report will be aired in POPCOM’s official Facebook account at https://web.facebook.com/commissiononpopulationanddevelopment.

The theme highlights the reality that as countries are on community quarantines and health systems struggle to cope with the pandemic, there is the continuing need for access to quality sexual and reproductive health services which is supported by the 2020 State of the World Population Report that documents the global situation and recommendations for women and girls to be free from gender-based violence and other harmful practices, especially during this pandemic.  Discussions of the pre-recorded forum will focus on the Philippines’ efforts to achieve transformative results of ending unmet need for family planning, ending maternal deaths, and ending gender-based violence and other harmful practices.

About POPCOM: The Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM) is the country’s lead organization in population management for well-planned and empowered Filipino families and communities. Its goal is to attain a better quality of life for all Filipinos through management and maintenance of population level resources and the environment.
