31st Sandurot Festival

Dumaguete City known to be the land of Gentle People and considered as home of different nationalities welcomes its 31st Sandurot Festival.

Long before what the city is today was a land molded out of red earth. Along the streams of Banica River, the first dumagueteños spend most of their time molding earthenware from “pulang yuta”. Progressing through time and various episodes in history, Dumaguete became a melting pot of people from different places. Carrying the natural beauty of its art, culture and dishes presented through generations making the city into a one dynamic society.

The cities rich history brought people from all over the world together. As locals welcome visitors with genuine kindness and hospitality which made them love the city more and ended up settling down for good. With the rise of different universities the lands population grew and so is its economic status.

Through this journey the Sandurot Festival was born. Sandurot is derived from the Visayan word “pakig-sandurot”, meaning “join-in”. The festival celebrates the variation of its people and the countless stories that made Dumaguete what it is today. Dumagueteños innate hospitality, invitingness and their fondness to live along side with individuals with diverse race, religion, and social beliefs paved way for this festival. This is also a celebration for the entire Roman Catholic for Dumaguete City’s patroness, St. Catherine de Alexandria, the Patroness Saint of the Philosophers.

Let’s keep this growing vibe of hospitality going not just this Sandurot Festival but all throughout generations. “Join in” Makig Sandurot kita!
